Attention Jeff...FAR Question

Jeff,

I have my PPL and was wanting to verify somthing I thought I heard in GSchool.

Is there such a commercial rating that does not require a IFR rating? I had heard that your flyable distants from a FBO was limited to 50KM.

The reason I was asking was in regaurds to those who crop dust and what are the mins for them???

Well, it's best to refer to the FAR--

From FAR 61.133 (b):
"Limitations.
(1) A person who applies for a commercial pilot certificate with an airplane category or powered-lift category rating and does not hold an instrument rating in the same category and class will be issued a commercial pilot certificate that contains the limitation, "The carriage of passengers for hire in (airplanes) (powered-lifts) on cross-country flights in excess of 50 nautical miles or at night is prohibited." The limitation may be removed when the person satisfactorily accomplishes the requirements listed in �61.65 of this part for an instrument rating in the same category and class of aircraft listed on the person's commercial pilot certificate."

Note it is 50 nautical miles, not kilometers.

In the past 3 months I have read so much of PT121 that my neck needs rethreading:) that I didnt even think of 61.

So I gather that this would cover crop dusters too?

With the non instrument commercial you can carry skydivers, dust crops, do short sight seeing flights and such. I think that crop dusting requires some special training. It has it's own section in the FARs It is part 137. Note, you don't need a commerical licence to dust crops, you just can't get paid for it or build time doing it.
