Thread: AI question

    Exclamation AI question

Hey ever-bidey! Y'all been doin' alright?

I just opened up my Traffic Tools 2.02 by Lee Swordy after an absence of a couple years, and I noticed I have some source references that I don't recognize. Here they are:

    Airports_ODF.txt
    Aircraft_ODF.txt
    Flightplans_ODF.txt

Does anyone know what the ODF part means? I cannot remember to save my hide.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Default AI Question

Thanks for the early response, jirisys.

I apologize, I should have easily opened up one of the .txt files with Notepad before asking a bone-head question like that. Those are some MIL flights I had left in there.

Hard to believe 2 years have "flown" by without my having looked in there.

Anyway, I agree with you that most of the time ODF would be an Open Office Document file, however, I believe in this case, the ODF has more to do with being an identifier (like aircraft_PAI.txt) since Traffic Tools uses simple Notepad files to compile and decompile .bgl files. I've figured it now.

Good shot, though, and it wouldn't hurt my feelings if I were wrong!

    Thanks again!

Well, i like to help very fast, in my experience, being stuck with a problem for a long time is so annoying...

and what do you mean with the name? Thats the bad thing about windows, it never shows you the file extension, just the app opened with

Easy fix for that - just go to My Computer/Tools/Folder Options/View

Scroll down a bit and be sure there is no tick mark in the box which says "hide extensions for known file types"

Also I like to have my View set to "details" rather than "icons" - that way I see the actual, complete file name - which can sometimes get truncated in an icon view.

    Hope that helps.

The MD-83 (default) in FS2004 is for AI only.

There is no Panel as one is not required with AI aircraft and the air file has been set so it does display in the select an aircraft menu.

It is easy enough to make it a flyable aircraft -

Just use the free AirEd utility (available in the library) and edit line 105 (near the top) of the .air file for the MD-83 (MD_83.air) so the value is 0 (zero) not 2.

That will make it visible on your select an aircraft screen.

It should be selectable under McDonnell-Douglas/Boeing as the manufacturer.

Then alias the panel to some other panel such as the default b737-400.

To do that you create a folder named panel in the MD-83 folder.

Inside that panel folder create a text file which reads as follows:

    [fltsim]
    alias=b737_400/panel

The name of that text file must be panel.cfg

That will alias the panel for the MD-83 to the B737-400 panel.

No guarantee how well the aircraft will fly but it is worth a shot.

Hi all, Im doing fine, hope you are all well. I still check in once in a while, been really busy

Jirisys, to get the details AND the preview, select Thumbnails from the folder options menu.
You get a small prewiew of an image, (not an icon) and the full filename.

    Take care,
    Gary.
