if you add another stick of memory without removing what you currently have then if will add, but make sure you have the same type of memory and the same speed.
As long as you are putting the new memory into an empty slot (most all computers have at least 1 extra memory slot for a total of 2 slots) then you will have 2GB. But like RFS001 said, make sure you get the right kind of memory for your computer or it won't even fit. You should be able to find that info on the internet. Also if your computer has two banks (ie. 2 'banks' with 2 slots each, for a total of 4 slots), put one stick in each bank. Don't fill one bank and leave the other empty.
