Default FSX and Vista 64 bits

    Hi,

Have bought my new computer but...troubles.

Is there anyone who has solved all the problems with it?

    First question:

-there are 2 directories: Program files/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X and with nothing and:
Program files (x86)/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X/with the whole program
Why? And gives this problems? Is it not better toplace the whole game in the first one?

    - the add-ons do not recognize the second one. I have placed them in the
second one. But they do not work!! The PMDG MD11 and others??

What can I do? Is there anyone who has solved all the problems with it?

    Regards
    Loek

In Vista, it's better to install FSX in its own directory, NOT under the c:\Program Files directory. Start here and see if your addons work then.

The reason fsx is in the x86 version is because it is a 32bit program. All your 32 bit programs will go into the Program Files X86 directory.

All 64bit native applications will go into the "normal" Program files directory.

You shouldnt have any issues pointing your installers to the x86 program. I have 3 systems running 64bit ultimate and havnt seen a program not let me point it there.

Also to make things easier for you, go ahead of turn off UAC.

Nick is correct. you will find your FSX directory in the x86 files. I know what you are going through. I installed Vista 64 and had to figure out the differences also.
There are many more that are different than XP. Once you learn how, it' like riding a bike.

Txt fellows. It helps me, I was confused yesterday.

    Ok, now the solution.

    >Also to make things easier for you, go ahead of turn off UAC.>
UAC is "user account control"? And why to turn off?

    >In Vista, it's better to install FSX in its own directory, NOT under the c:\Program Files directory. Start here and see if your addons work then. >
    And what to do?
To make a directory OS (C: ) \\fsx ? And place all the stuff into it?
Why not in \\Program Files/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X ?? That is the classic one and easy to find. But tell me...

With UAC active, you will need to change the permissions of the folder flight sim x is in or you will not be able to edit aircraft cfg files and such. UAC is a good tool for keeping people out of places they shouldnt be, but for people who like to tweak stuff, it can be an annoyance. Like everything in life, the pro's come with con's.

I belive he was saying to install it to a seperate physical drive if you can, if not I would leave it in the x86 folder.

    Further progress:

FSX runs in Program files (x86)/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X/ very well.
Add-on DHC-6 Twin Otter (special for Vista) works also very well, no problem at all.

Add-on PMDG MD11 (downloaded) for FSX gives fatal error.
Add-on B737 PIC gives no textures, no color.

It seems that the FSX is not the problem but the add-ons.

Ok, what to do next. Take it all off and make a directory as "c://planes" and place all in this one and try the others? I do not know how to make a new segment and I also do not have an extra (good) harddisk.

In the Play Properties under right mouse you find privilege level and I turned on "run this program as an administrator". But he asked every time again permission.

If you have DX10 preview ticked on, try removing it. I had the same problem with textures when using add on aircraft and DX10 preview on.

Yes that was a solution, but gives a bad FSX. So I took off the B737. End story.

Who has experience with FSX/Vista 64x
    - DA Fokker 70/100
    - PMDG MD11
    - PMDG B747
    - FSC 8.5 version

Loek. What exactly do you mean by a bad FSX? If I turn off DX10, the textures for my adds work fine and I cannot really tell the difference in FSX.
