Default LOC same FREQ opposing RWYS

Lately I've had problems capturing the LOC at airport runways where the frequency is the same for both ends of the runway. Specifically, at EGKK, KIAD, and San Jose. For instance, I approach rwy 26L at Gatewick at an angle, set the radio to 110.90. Instead of tracking the rwy the plane turns toward the opposite direction as if tracking rwy 08R. So I turn around and head back, this time I hit back-course, and the LOC lines up. Any idea why I can't track some (or all?) of the opposing rwys? It's happened several times now, both on straight-ins and when vectoring around to the opposite.
    Thx

Are you setting the OBI (course) to the heading of the runway you wish to land on?

It's a limitation of FS. In the real world, only one ILS would be switched on, for the active runway - the opposing ILS with the same frequency would be switched off, so it would never be seen. FS doesn't have this ability, which means that in one direction you'll see the ILS, but in the other you'll see the back course.

Well there's one way to fix it. I used Airport Design Editor and added a new ILS for 26L at EGKK. Not quite the real world but it works just fine and now I've got a glidescope.

By default every localizer world wide has back course enabled in FS.

If you have FSX Deluxe and the SDK which matches your version of FSX installed - you can use Airport Design Editor to open the airport.

Find the localizer symbol, right click and Edit Object.

Unselect the "Enable Back Course" check box

    Close

Do the other end of the runway

    Save the airport

    Compile

One other important thing - know the IDENT of the localizer you need to capture for an ILS landing - and be sure to check that IDENT is the localizer you have captured. The normal behavior for FS2004 and FSX is that the base end, the lower number of the two, will be captured. That would be IGG for the Rwy 08R localizer at EGKK. IWW is the Rwy 26L localizer.

There is a narrow area straight off 26L where you can capture IWW - but it is hard to find.
