evga 790i ftx

i decided on this board as it supports my q9400 duo core quad processor
got some corsair mem CM3X2G1600C9DHX mem ddr3 on there supp site
board doesnt support this mem but they told me to set the timing and voltage
manually and all should be fine do i need to update bios

It is unlikely you would need a BIOS update in order for your Q9400 to be compatible with EVGA's 790i based motherboards.
However, I can't be absolutely sure of that because I can't find the 790i FTX on EVGA's website.
The only 790i motherboards listed there are the the 790i FTW, the 790i FTW Digital, and the 790i Ultra Sli.

OK. Thought that might be the case.

EVGA recommends flashing the BIOS to version SZ16 which you can download from EVGA's website.

You don't need to install the new BIOS version immediately so I recommend you install your new board and then, after you get your system all checked out, flash to the new BIOS version.
