Thread: FS9, Affinity, cores, any guru knowledge ?

    Question FS9, Affinity, cores, any guru knowledge ?

    Hi,

    I know FS9 only makes use of 1 core in a multicore system.
    Since I have a dual core, I like to know what is the best affinity setup.

    For example, some system services I cant change the affinity for, and dont know on what core they initially run. Cant see that in taskmanager.

    So, is it best to put FS9.EXE on core 1 and all other things on core 0, or vice verse ?

    Or are there ways to force everything exectp FS9.exe to core 0 and set FS on core 1 ?

    Any insights ?

    Johan

    Johan;

    I've found that if you explicitly restrict FS9 to run on either one of the cores, Windows (XP or Vista) will move other processes to the other core(s) due to FS9's high CPU utilization. You can go to the trouble of messing with affinities on other stuff, but in most cases Windows is already doing decent load management for you.

    I permanently set mine to run on CPU0 by writing a processor affinity mask into the fs9.exe PE header using a MS utility called imagecfg, and don't mess with it from there. I'm using a Core2 Duo X6800 here.
