The management of FlightSim.com would never say what follows, but I will ...

    Folks,

I believe you'll find that, unlike any other website in the FS community, FlightSim.com has a definite end user orientation. I'm thinking in particular of the Newcomer Services forum, where you should feel free to ask any question at all without fear of embarassment and without fear of your being flamed.

Another unique forum is the brand new Aircraft Customization. As you gain experience with FS, through this forum you'll learn to make custom changes to your favorite freeware and payware aircraft.

I'm not a member of the FlightSim.com management team, nor do I speak for FlightSim.com, nor do I have any formal ties to this site. Those things said, several forums here were started at my request, and I saw them through their startup phases. These forums are ...

    Newcomer Services
    Military Flight Sims
    PC Software Tech
    Aircraft Customization

I mention my informal role in forum startups partly to toot my own horn and partly to show how flexible and concerned site management is that the end user community be served in ways that other FS websites do not.

I would also like you to know that FlightSim.com is not run by a staff of forty part-time volunteers who can only pay sporadic attention. Rather, it is staffed by three people who are full-time paid employees of the site, and the site itself is well-funded, properly backed up to geographically separate server farms run by IT professionals, and constantly undergoing improvements of various kinds, some visible to we end users and some not.

In other words, FlightSim.com is a well-run business rather than a happening. Therefore unlike other sites in the FS community, the forums here will never disappear, nor will the all-important freeware file library.

Speaking of the file library, you should know that webmaster Nels Anderson personally manages it all by himself. He virus-checks every file, and he puts them all in zip format regardless of the format of the original submissions. He also makes sure that all developer licenses are being adhered to. Finally, because he does these things all by himself first thing every day, his knowledge of the library contents is encyclopedic. (He does the same thing for FlightSim's sister site, Train-Sim.com.)

How did I come know these things? Well, I've been hanging out here for more than a decade, since shortly after the site opened, first as a "lurker" and then as an active participant. While I make the occasional post to other sites, FlightSim.com is my FS home base by a wide margin. I consider webmaster Nels Anderson to be the elder statesman of this hobby, and I'm proud of my informal association with this site.

In closing, I want also to recommend the FS Pilot Shop as a source of addon hardware and software. I've been doing business with them since they opened their doors. What they really sell is customer satisfaction and you can never go wrong buying from them. Trust me, if the eDimensional people were not of the highest ethical standards, FlightSim.com would never be affiliated with them.

There. Quite a testimonial. No, I don't get anything for posts like this, or for the articles I often write for the site's front page, beyond exposure of my name and links to my two writing websites.
