    Default Slewing problem

    Hi

I seem to be having problems slewing in FSX.If I hit the 'Y' key to enable slew mode, the a/c or object I want to move immediately blasts off horizontally at a fast rate of knots.Basically I have no control of the slewing commands. As far as I know the commands are not assisgned anywhere else.

    Anyone got any idea why?

    Thanks in advance

That happens to me in FS9 as well at times. I haven't a clue as to why.

If you are using a joystick, make sure it is centered before entering SLEW mode.

There is a very good tutorial on dealing with odd aircraft behavior in the older versions of FS that you can find in the Avsim library -- look for file "fsplaned.zip" by Derek G Swanson.

I have used the tests and corrective actions outlined there to fix aircraft all the way from FS98 to FS2002. One of the static tests and fixes it discusses is "on exiting slew when static on the ground, the plane zooms off at full speed."

What could be happening is that the aircraft has incorrect aircraft.cfg settings for static center of gravity or the models idea of where the landing gear is located does not match with what is in the config file. As a result, when you slew the aircraft rises up a few feet. Then when you exit slew, FS sees you are not on the ground and does its default behavior -- full throttle.

Maybe FSX is different but I know that the tutorial has helped me fix many aircraft in older FS versions so you might want to give it a look. Hopefully that helps anyone who has similar problems.

Have you tried disabling your joystick (Ctrl K) before slewing?

That trick sometime works in FS2004 and may also work in FSX.

Be sure you enable it again after you are finished slewing.
