I have been asking this about a month.
Use an old FS like FS4 and it's WWI game.
Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator: WWII Europe Series
Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2: WWII Pacific Threatre
Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3: Battle for Europe
Ubisoft's Il-2 Sturmovik 1946
Ubisoft Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X
Fighter Ace
ACE
Iron Aces: Heroes of the WWII
Any Other Combat Flight Simlator

IL2 used to be the best but it's looking dated now.
Personally I've always enjoyed Janes F15 Eagle, still do. Trouble is it used a graphics engine no longer used so the graphics are a bit blocky. I like it because it lets you fly to target with your wingmen, beat the place up and go tearing home again without constantly being blown to pieces. it's survivable. It also has nice touches like AWACS and Helo rescue choppers (well at least in the radio chatter).
Jane's ATF, but that was from 1995
It was the best, and actually probably is the best sim today even

Falcon IV is about the best it gets. Flew it for several years until I got older and slower.
Has anyone experienced Yankee Air Pirate?
Falcon 4.0 No holds barred is the combat simulator that is a league on its own. None of those other titles holds a candle to this one.
If you want a full combat experience, get this one. The campaign engine is like no other. You can be in the same campaign again and again and the results will always end up different the second or third time around.
Granted the graphics is dated, but that's not the issue here.

Without a doubt, as far as pure combat sims go, Falcon 4 and Falcon 4AF are tops. Like mentioned before, graphics are dated, but there are none that can match the realism of combat. I flew many more hours than I'd like to admit to on that one, both alone and multiplay. I got a bit carried away with it and built my own cockpit just so I wouldn't have to remember so many key commands.

Well you guys may be right about the jet sims, however I have no interest in Jet sims. To me the ww2 era piston planes was the hotrod era of air combat. I used to play MS combat flight sim on the x zone and was even a member of 187th, but the cheating got totally out of hand and ruined the games. But it did have a fine P51 which when mastered was unbeatable in a dogfight. I just watched a documentary on the P51 on a series called decisive weapons. One interview was with a German fighter pilot who flew against the P51, he said it was superior to all German planes in every regard and if you encountered it you probably died. So I have flown IL2 a lot too and the model of the P51 is a joke, and that just ruins the whole series and makes it suck despite the nice graphics. As far as I am concerned there are no good flight sims, despite the huge increase in cpu and gpu power. Right now I would say the best combat flight sim is the multiplayer mode of COD MW3 which is really a flight sim since you have to continually run or move forward so that nobody sneaks up on your six (which totally ruins the realism of this FPS combat sim) I have been waiting and waiting for someone to make a flight sim with the multiplayer fun of the original MS combat series online buty without the cheating. What kind of idiot gets a kick out of winning by cheating anyhow?
