Thread: Dual Core Proccesor?

  1. #1

    Default Dual Core Proccesor?

    Hi,

I'm wondering, it says that in my specs, listed below, it says x2.

I am curios as does it mean 2 proccesors? As in High Flight Simulations, one of the tweakers or posters is i think the same. So is in the specs does it mean 2 proccesores?

Also, if i set fsx to use 2 cores, will it affect much, or 3 if it is 2 proccesors. If i set to it, will it affect anything?

    Thanks,

    Hi,

Yes the dual core tells you that you have 2 core processors.

If you have SP2 installed for FSX, then FSX is using both cores without you needing to do anything.
    Thanks,

And what if you don't have SP2?

SP1 and above have multi-core support.

Right, but do I need to do anything? When he said "FSX is using both cores without you needing to do anything," it seemed as though he was saying that prior to SP2, something needed to be done in order for FSX to be using both cores. I could be wrong, but that was my interpretation of his post.

You do not need to do enything.
    FSX will use all cores.
You can verify by:CTRL+ALT+DEL and going to process and doing at right click at FSX and checking afinity.
Anyway as previus post stated, you get to use multicore after SP1.
    No tweaks needed.

    Have a great day.

    Thanks,

But I am still a bit confused, is it 2 proccesors, wich means 4 cores?

No -- the X2 spec you reference is 2 cores, meaning one processor chip with two cores. And two processors would not automatically mean four cores -- it might only be two cores, one per processor. Dual (and quad) core processors are pretty new, especially in the desktop/PC world. Still, you could think of it as two processors, since functionally that's what you have -- two processors on a chip.

    Thanks,

If I set FSX to two cores, will it affect anything, like there are only 2 cores one the proccesor.

    Hi,

You don't need to set FSX to 2 cores. If you have SP1 or higher(see above), it is already happening automatically.

To see this: Open Task Manager, run FSX in Windowed Mode and watch the Performance Tab--CPU Usage graphs. No it won't be 50-50!
    Thanks,

    Jim
