    Default brake/reverse thrust settings in 2004

    hi,

    just a thought, is it possible to tweak the brake setting in fs2004 via cfg file at all, i always feel it is too much on the toe brakes if you know what i mean......would like to make them not so harsh.....i dont have rudder pedals as yet...

    also am using the saitek yoke and throttle combo and am looking to only use a certain % of reverse thrust on touchdown as opposed to 100% reverser kicking in and stopping short way too quick...

    any advice much appreciated....

    The quick answer is that you need to lower the value of the toe brakes line in the plane's aircraft.cfg file. Reload the plane after each edit.

    Default Brake Adj

    You obviously have a jet (heavy). It requires hefty braking capability. But, you will find that in 9 out of 10 aircraft, in the air file, the line 'braking strength= xxx' will be different. Why? Because the modelers all have their own idea of how much braking thier aircraft needs, what the specs say, what they dreamed of the night before, or what their mental calculations SEEM to indicate. It's all open to debate, too. Ok, so they try. What I do is go set it to '-32767' (max) and then adjust in cfg for braking 'effectiveness'.

    Toe Brake 'standard' is 1.0. Adjust from there. I have made it as low as 0.3 due to contact points being effected due to hard braking where your A/C hops skips and maybe even bounces down the runway. Since I can now adjust the contact points to where it don't do dat, I leave it at 1.0 in cfg, and '-32767' in air file. By the way, the differential braking is usually 80% of toe brakes (so, 0.3 toe would be 0.2 for diff). So now-tell me-does your a/c bounce on landing due to brakes? Yes? Then it's the contact points that need adjust. Not brakes.

    should have made myself more clearer.....i dont have toe brakes as yet just the yoke/throttle combo (pro flight by saitek)
    not having issues with bouncing its just that when i hit the brakes (on the yoke button at the moment until i get the toe brakes/rudder set) the speed comes off way to quick for my liking......

    will take the suggestions and let you know how i get on. thanks for the links to the various sites for cfg....good reading.

    Hi,

    The toe brake scalar affects all kind of braking - with actual toe brakes, or just pressing the period key or equivalent on your joystick. Works for all of them.

    To adjust reverse thrust, change the value of the minimum throttle line in the General Engine section. More negative means more reverse thrust.

    I have also had good results editing the Reverse Thrust line in the .air file for jet aircraft. I use the free editor called AirEd.

    The default values are usually in the -5 to -15 range. Experiment with a value of -25 to as much as -45 until you find something that works well for you.

    Default Thrust Amount

    The thrust is never that powerful, usually, to stop you that quick. It's supposed to be gradual slowing. And same for brakes. Maybe your yoke throttle slider is set wrong, in that the range could be too much. Not sure.

    Anyway. Reverse thrust in Air file can be set to -45 like Opa says, and then go adjust this line in General Engine section of cfg like Mr Wilson said: ( min_throttle_limit = -28 //Minimum percent throttle. Generally negative for turbine reverser). You can make it less (= -0.14) (any less and you don't have any effect) or more (= -0.41) or (= -?.??), your choice. Too much is supposed to stress your engines, so be gentle on the equiptment (hehe).

    The brake=value in cfg can be equal from: 0.2 to 3.0, depending on what you want. Again, too much or too little, either way, is not a 'good' thing. (What's that smell?)
