Default Need advice on hardware upgrade

I have a home built sytem that I built in '07 using a EVGA 680i SLI NF68 MB with a Quad Core QX6700 CPU and a EVGA 8800GTX Video card. I want to upgrade to a Nvidia 295 GTX video card but my MB does not support PCIe 2.0. So I guess it's time to upgrade the MB. Can I just upgrade the MB so I can upgrade the video and still use my CPU?

Please advise what's the top of the line components right now. Thanks.

PCIe 2 video cards will work in PCIe 1 motherboards, so there is no need to upgrade.

Thanks for the reply. That's good news. Is there a performance downside?

PCIe 2 doubles, I believe, the available bandwidth of the original version. However, PCIe 1 has more than enough bandwidth for now. Maybe with a quad SLI setup it could be an issue.
