    Default big blue death page

Hi I really need some help from some of you techno wizard guys. I have been trying to upgrade my RAM from 256 to 512/768. I bought two sticks of pc133 256 sdram and installed them, no problem. Went to fs2002 (pro) opened ok, select a flight ok, tried to change a view/move the hat switch - bang -BIG BLUE DEATH SCREEN.

Tried each sdram stick indiviually, no problem 2002 works ok with only one stick installed, more than one - no way, blue death screen again.

I could really use some help to sort this out

    system AMD Athlon XP 1600+
    Intel Max
    GeForce MX 400 64mb
    20gb hd

    Thanks in advance

First and formost is your PC designed to use PC133. Example is that if your only is to be used with PC100, then the extra 33 is wasted. My computer teacher tells me that this can cause blue screens. Yet another tells me that the extra 33 will simp;ly be ignored. Where they cheap memory? Micron is considered one of the best.

First, what make and model is your motherboard, what chipset does it have? (ie. Soyo SY-K7V Super Dragon Plus with VIA KT266a).

Second, have you tried removing the old memory and putting the two new sticks in by themselves??

Last but not least, are you talking very nicely to the puter when it crash's?? (Not nearly as important as the first two but it never hurts)

I suspect that I know what your problem is....... Need the answer to a couple of questions.
    1. What Operating System are you using?
    2. Does the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death)only happen when you have 3 sticks of 256 mb totalling 768 mb of Ram.
    3. Is it only Flightsim that has a problem? Try using some applications and another game that uses Direct 3d.

Answer them and I will give you a fix for your problem.

I have two Soyo Dragon+ MOBOs. One will tolerate the third stick of 256MB of memory but is unstable especially in FS2002. The other MOBO will NOT tolerate the third stick at all. Both MOBOs are rock solid with two sticks for a total of 512MB.

Each computer is dual booted with Win98SE and WinXP. I have addressed the issue with Win98SE and the 512MB limitation. I mostly run WinXP anyway so the limitation shouldn't apply.

SOYO's forums are rift with this problem. Since you didn't indicate your MOBO or OS, I don't know if this is your problem.

Hi, Thanks for the quick response, I should have mentioned that I am using Win98, chipset = VAI 82C691 rev 68

It seems that FS2002 will operate with two sticks installed, but not 3. I tried FS2000 same thing.

Hi, Thanks for the quick response, I am still using Win98, with a VIA 82C691 rev 68 chipset, I'm not sure of the motherboard, I think it is Comtech and for once I did try talking to the THING nicely, didn't work unfortunately.

sorry forgot to mention that I tried it with the two new sticks in and it seems to work ok, but no improvement in frame rate.

I have the same problem but with a MSI mobo and an AMD 1400 proc.
I've tried everything but no use, it doesn't tolerate a 3rd stick of 256mb not even with three sticks of the same brand.
Blue screens and sometimes the computer won't even start up.
So I continue with only two sticks of 256mb and everything works fine.
    How comes???? Good question..
