Thread: About CFS2

  1. Default About CFS2

Hello all, i am working my way up thru the series of CFS, CFS2 and CFS3 and gathering planes, landscape, and mods for them all, have been at it for months now and wanted to ask a few questions about CFS2 and did noit see a section for it here, so hope it is ok to ask here...

Will CFS2 run on XP and are there tweaks or adjustments we need to make?

I am assuming CFS3 will so i have no worries there.

I see planes cant be moved to CFS3 from other topics here, so i wont worry about that, and there are many planes for both...though some specialty projects like the Seikan IJN project for CFS2 is a very nice one, and some other special things.

Will campaigns for CFS work on CFS2?

I have found a lot of ships created by the Virtual Navy for CFS2, and i wondered if they are replacments for the vanilla ships already in the game, or if they are intended to be player operated? Can i just drop them into the Airplane section as we do in FS2002 2004? i was not sure what their role was, and I really like naval aspects of the games so wanted to try to get the best models in for that as possible.

Will the meshes and landscape mods for CF2 and CFS3 work for each other? I understand about the planes not being compatable but wondered about the other mods...as there were a lot made for CFS2 that have not been reproduced for CFS3 yet.

thanks for any tips on running either of these games and i look forward to seeing them in action soon.

    CrisGer,

Yes cfs2 will work on XP, I have CFS2. I found CFS3 At Staples for $9.OO,
I didn't buy it because i don't like the way the Graphics look. You know
those mirrors that make you look overweight, That's what the planes look like.
CFS2 planes will work in XP.

Well folks I mis-judged CFS3. The graphics on the case that CFS3 3.1
came with the game is better than 3.0. When I first saw
cfs3 planes they looked like I Described earlier. So I read the forums and decided
to Buy cfs3 The Planes look better. Anyway I went and bought it. Sorry I
mis-judged it. I even downloaded 3 new planes. So to the people who fly CFS3
I'm Sorry. I haven't tried the bomber campaigns yet, but that's next on my list of things do to.

I'm running both CFS2 and CFS3 on Win XP with no problems whatsoever. I have the WWI add-on (which may no longer be available anywhere) for CFS2 called "Combat Aces" and the "Korean Combat Pilot" add-on. For CFS3, I have "Firepower" installed. I recently flew a mission in a squad of B17s on a bombing run. You can man all gunnery positions in the B17 (Memphis Belle) and pilot or co-pilot. Both games are on my older machine, a Pentium 4, 3.4GHz, 8800 GTS 640MB vid card machine.

On my i7 920 with a GTX 285 1GB machine with Win 7, 64Bit, I have a second install of CFS3 with Over Flanders Fields: Beyond Heaven & Hell, the Superpatch, and the new Hat in the Ring expansion.

Thumbs up All 3 MSFS combat sims

    Hello!

I have all three CFS versions on my modest system, and run XP Home with SP3.

All three of them run just great... no frame difficulties, all of the planes & gauges show up and work just fine. If I had to make a choice I would say that I like CFS & CFS2 a little more, if nothing else because I love to hear the comments of the wingmen! I think the best is, "I'm taking hits!" in CFS, followed by the sounds of the Japanese wingmen in CFS2; they're so... enthusiastic!

CFS3 is good, it just seems to be different than the other 2 as far as the feel is concerned... I dunno how to describe it.

    Just my 2¢ worth...

That means that you have set the screen resolution wrong, you need to go into your Windows Control Panel, then into Display and Settings, and finally into Resolution. By changing the resolution, you will normalize the shape of the aircraft.

Sorry to sidetrack a bit, Plainsman, but I have CFS3 3.1 running with the OFF add-on. I hear that the Firepower add-on does wonders for CFS3, but is it compatible with OFF?
