  1. Default Flying Jets????

    Good Evening,

Last night i decided to try my self at the the first mission with jets. I got the hang of it alot easier but got very very confused with all the screens and also where is the speed???

I had a problem landing to as it kept saying to reduce your speed but i didnt know where to look and i followed what the man said but i ended up landing on the end of the runway and not stopping til i hit a fence and then finally stopped???

    Any ideas?????

I use a xbox360 controller as i run this game off my laptop and it doesnt havea joystick port. I am a lil confused.

So if any one has some spare time and could label this screen shot of the cockpit for me i would be very grateful cause i am just so confused. Or just give me a idea of how some of it works as i get very confised on what the middle screen means??? and also if you can locate the speed i would be helpful!!!

    Thanks To Everyone

Taking a stab at it, I believe the speed indicator is on the attitude gauge (hope thats the right name of the gauge, lol). It is the big gauge to the right of the clock (says 12:25)

Look at the top of that gauge, SPD should equal speed and if I am not mistake the vertical indicator on the very left hand edge might also be a speed indicator (could be wrong??)

Basically, its pretty easy, everything is just mashed into the screens.

I've labeled them from indicators (red) and autopilot (yellow).

its real basic but its all you need to get flying.

I'd also suggest try the 737-800 for starters as its more user friendly looking, at least in my opinion.

    Red

1 speed tape. The higher it is the faster you're going Right now its pointed at zero.

2 is your altitude. looks like you're at about 900 feet.

3 is your angle of attack (if i'm not mistaken, I don't really use the Embraer that much)

4 depicts what altitude your autopilot is set to

5 is your 'compass'. Shows what way you're pointing, where your VORs ADFs ILSs and a lot of other things are in relation to your position. It can take some time getting it how you like it.

    Yellow

1 speed hold turn the knob up to your desired speed, say 200 knots then press the button above it.

2 heading knob. Rotate to desired heading and press the button above it.

3 Altitude. Same as others, find what you want and press the button.

    4 Master autopilot engage button.

There are also Auto throttle switches and Heading Directory switches (1 each) you need to activate in conjuction with the Master auto pilot button for the plane to fully fly itself (thought I don't know where they are on this plane, but they SHOULD be labeled F/D and AT-ENGAGE) or something close.

Also, if you have a certain waypoint entered to your GPS you can switch from NAV to GPS mode and then press the NAV button then plan will fly itself to that position in the world no matter the distance unlike VORs which have a range of about 200 miles. This is good to aviod the annoying ATC heading corrections every 5 minutes.

To switch to ILS mode switch back to NAV mode, enter ILS frequency (Example 110.500) into NAV1 Radio and the plan will (practicall, its a little rough in default MS) land itself.

Hope it helps. There is a bit more to learn but his should keep you going for awhile.

Note that you will have a hard time finding any joystick that uses the joystick (game) port these days. As long as you have a USB port open, you can get a reasonably priced Logitech or Saitek stick, plug it in, and away you go (on Win XP or Vista you don't need to install any software or drivers, just plug it in and FS will see it).

Thanks Guys!!!! i will have another go and try again at that!!! lol this time hopefully landing on the runway lol

I have also got a couple of other questions,

What are VORs ADFs ILSs ??????? i mean i have never done anything like this before so have really got no idea lol

Also that middle screen which is the radar and stuff, does that show you your flight plans and stuff???? and like which direction to go in????

I think i have to figure alot of this stuff out for myself but i just keep reading topic's and getting very confused about some of what is said. I mean i just thought to land you just did and i didnt know you have to calcautle and stuff like this???

Unfortunately there is no way you are going to learn all the aspects of jet flying with guess work and hoping for the best. You will have to read up on the subject. Now before you groan I am one of the worst for reading manuals and instructions etc i just want to get going but if you do take the time to gen up you should find the whole process a lot easier to sort out.
One word of advice though you should stick at it because its very rewarding when you manage to complete a whole flight and put the aircraft down safely on your runway.
PS have you looked at the lessons in FS9 there is one there using the default 737 which should give you some idea what's involved.
PPS When i think how much is involved in learning jet airliner operation can't believe I have done it myself sometimes. And if i have managed it I am sure you will to.
    Join a VA
Airsource is my favourite one because you can fly using all the worlds great carriers and there diverse liveries rather than the one VA livery for all flights. You will find lots of helpful advice at any VA worth its salt.
PPPS Although i am no novice when it comes to jet flying there is still lots left to learn as simulated jets vary hugely in there realism and complexity i.e I still have a lot to learn about flight engagement computers(FMC)a lot more about navigation and on and on and on but that is what makes Flight simming so addictive.
    Good luck

VORs, ILSs and ADF are all methods of navigation. GPS is the other main one( The map screen in the middle can display all of these.)

I suggest taking a look at the missions labeled 'Tutorial'. Don't expect to be able to land the heavies every time at first, but get the basics right in small aircraft first.
I fly through the valley of death, but I fear no evil, for I am at 80,000 feet and climbing. Let's powerdive and scare that poor soul in that Ultralight there.

If you save a flight plan and then load once you're in the plane, then yes your waypoints and what not will show up on the display. Though be reminded, its not radar. Its more like situational awareness.

It says where you are in relation to other things but wont show other airplanes (unless you have some payware)

Basically, create a flight plan, use high altitude airways or vor to vor. Edit the waypoints on the right to how you want them.

then start your flight. Load that saved flight plan and everything will show up there. You can adjust the zoom, and types of top down views and information that it will show.

If you enable the autopilot like I described above it will fly to the next way point on your list.

To check your waypoints, select your GPS and press FPL. it will show the list.

press the circular knob on the bottom right to highlight one and use the arrows to toggle through them. Lets say you want to skip a few waypoints ahead. Highlight it and press the menu button. There will be an option "activate next waypoint". select yes and the plane will automatically direct its course to that way point.

ATC might not catch on that you switched your flight plan so they may try to correct your course to the previous one.
