Does anyone know if there is a big difference in frame rates
between Pentium4 1.5 GHz and Pentium4 2.2GHz.
I have pentium4 1.5 GHz and I'm planning to upgrade it
to get better fps in FS2002.
Thank You.

I would upgrade my video card or increase my RAM before upgrading my P4. I may be wrong, but I would venture to guess that you're not going to see much, if any, difference by bumping up to a 2.2GHz... A 1.5 should be more than enough to handle anything the game can dish out.

There are a few very knowledgable folk on this site that can tell you for certain.

Good luck, Tom

This will depend to a large extent on your memory. If you are using PC133, then this will limit the performance of your P4, which was originally designed to use Rambus RAM (also referred to as PC800). If you have DDR RAM (PC2100 or PC2700), then the situation gets better. While I'm not a CPU expert, I understand that there is a significant difference in the chip architecture between the 1.5GHz and 2.2GHz series. However, if you are stuck with PC133, then I would suggest that you do what I have done. Buy a new Mainboard that is DDR compatible and switch to the AMD Athlon. I'm now using an XP1800+ and saw my frame rates improve more than 50%. BTW - this summer/fall should see the release of the new AMD CPU, as well as the introduction of PC400 RAM. I understand that this combination will be a huge improvement over existing technology, but undoubtedly at a premium price. I prefer to stay one step behind the madness (the 4600 being an exception). Good luck.

PC2:

LAST EDITED ON Apr-29-02 AT 02:28AM (EDT)[p]Yeah, I heard AMD about to come out with a doosie of a system. I can't imagine what the next edition of FS is going to look like. It may be just me, but I already get queesy when I've had a few beers and I've been flying. :D Same thing for NASCAR. Pretty sad, huh?? ;-) If I pop the top of a few brews, it's time for me to get off the computer. I weigh a buck-o-five, so it doesn't take much for me. :-lol Now if I got my hands on a top-of-the-line system, there's no tellin' what would happen...:-irks

I'd check out your Pentium socket....it may not be as easy to upgrade as you think....earlier P4s have a different number of pins that the later ones.

We were having a discusion in work about processor prices and notices when you get to the top of the range, each extra 100mhz puts an extra £100 on the price......we were wandering if it was worth it (do you know anyone who can tell the difference between a P4 1.9 and 2.2, apart from having £200 more in your pocket....you could buy a top of the range graphics card with that).
