Thread: RTW Leg 11 - Vagar to Alderney

  1. #1

Default RTW Leg 11 - Vagar to Alderney

Trip distance 800 nm Total RTW distance to date 7520 nm

Leaving the faroe islands around 10:30 in the morning... the weather sure is a lot calmer than when i landed

I have checked the tides and have decided to stop off at barra airport in the outer hebrides, scotland on my way south...barra is one of only two in the world where scheduled flights use the beach as the runway

You have three adhoc runways marked by wooden poles at their ends

i hang out for a bit and grab a bite, put a little fuel in the tanks

approaching alderney, in the english channel, only three square mile in area... part of the british channel islands even though its closer to france

the tower parks me at the end of the row

check out my last leg http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?t=191242

    Nice shots Gusto.

I really don't like the winter textures though, they are so unrealistic. If I fly in winter, I change to spring or summer.

Made me feel like I was along for the trip!!!
Thanks for sharing such a unique and cool flight on the forum.
I'm going to visit these spots in FSX and maybe enhance them with Instant Scenery as well!
    Thanks again!!!

That England should be dismissed so brutally!

Mind you, you should see what's coming for the Channel Isles: http://earthsimulations.com/channel_isles_uk.html

Ian...yes, this RTW is revealing a number of short comings in fsx...i don't think the famous landmarks are as good as fs9...real time weather is not always accurate...missing airports ( jan mayen, barra)...being assigned by atc to land on down wind runways...creating great camera views - in fs9 you could place a tower view anywhere with fs navigator which allowed awesome screenshots...however overall it's still a great piece of software
