Thread: Flight Environment

    Default Flight Environment

I recentley purchased Flight Environment 2004 and I haven't noticed a whole lot of change. I have most of the slider cranked out and of course the reccomended setting for water textures. The main thing that bugs me right now is that the water "pulses" back and forth between the default and the upgraded texture. Anybody have any ideas? I currently don't have any other add-on scenery or utilities. However I am going to add Ultimate Terrain soon.
    Thanks,
    Dack

Thats interesting, I've had water textures pulsing for some time now and wasn't quite sure how best to describe it (pulsing is an excellent description).

I wondered whether it was a videocard problem or a problem with the particular water textures I was using.

    Hello,

This "pulse" is not a bug ... that's a normal behaviour of FS2004..
Some addon's for water quality increase this effect (and I don't like it )
I dunno .. but maybe this file is linked with the phenomena :
    OceanHeightField.bmp

    Regards.

May well be connected. I do seem to remember replacing this file when I changed the water textures. and when I've a bit more spare time, I will try replacingit with the original.

    Hi Dack,

I'm assuming that after installing FE you have run the Configurational Utility, selected the desired textures for the clouds, water and sky and then actually installed them to FS2004 ?

As far as the "pulsing" waves, this can depend on the water textures chosen, as there are a variety of options that can minimize or maximize this effect.

    Could the pulsing water texture be a stutter, or a texture loading issue related to the the line in the .cfg file that is this;

"Texture_Bandwidth_Mult:40" Maybe you need to bump it up to 80, 120 or higher?

But it somehow sounds more like it can't make up it's mind what texture it wants to use. In which case maybe deleting the original texture would fix it?

I'm just learning all this stuff so don't listen to me, just trying thoughts....

I have chosen several different set-ups using the randomizer and it doesn't seem to matter what textures are chosen, the water pulses. Should I just get used to it?
I'm thinking of getting Ultimate Terrain, ActiveSky, and Ground Environment Pro. Will any of these paywares fix the water problem?

    Thanks,
    Dack

But the water pulses anyway in the default FS2004 set up. I agree that certain FE settings may make it more noticeable but conversely I find some make it less so. I think the mip level setting in your sliders might make a difference - try reducing it a little?

    Hi Dack,

Rather than use the Randomizer, run the proper selection utility, as this gives you a chance to select the water options manually.

I watched this Youtube video and you can see the "pulsing" of the water. This is what mine does so I'm assuming it is natural.
