Thread: Would that be fine ?

Default Would that be fine ?

    Hello,

I am planning for space planning reason, to by a DELL XPS notebook with the following specs :

    - Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme X9000 (2,80 GHz, cache L2 de 6 Mo, FSB 800 MHz)
    - 4096 Mo SDRAM DDR2 667 MHz 2x2048
    - 2 x 160 Go, 7200 tpm RAID 0 stripe
    - Dual SLI NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800GTX 512 Mo

Of course I am not expecting the fps I would get with a Core i7 765 and a GTX 280 video card but do you think I could run FSX with sliders at the right ?

    Thanks,

    Greg

You asked if that $4000 machine could run FSX with sliders at the right and the answer is still No.

You can spend $40,000 on ANY system right now and the answer would still be No. And laptop hardware is not designed for a heavy piece of software such as FSX, no matter what the ads and sales people might tell you.

Now, if you want to turn down your settings from far right to something more reasonable, then yes it will work.
    Thanks,

    Jim

Including this in your original answer would have been more helpful and productive than just saying no.

I could have also said to rent Big Blue from IBM and then run FSX full right sliders. The OP didn't ask for work arounds, he wanted to know if he could run FSX full right sliders on that laptop and still the answer is no, he cannot, and get any type of acceptable framerate.
    Thanks,

    Jim

Would it have really hurt to have added one more sentence and provide some useful info to cassis? Just answering no on a web forum can come across as rather rude as there is nothing else to go on (like the tone of your voice etc.). Many users that come here don't know much about computers or about FS, so just saying no isn't usually very helpful to most.

Just kidding and Merry x-mas !!!

Now, does anyone think that the notebook Dell XPS 1730 with Dual SLI 8800 GTX 512MB and a intel X900 would bring me a smooth FSX ?
