You can do this by editing the panel .cfg. Add a new window in sequential order in the main panel option, and enter:
[Window0X]
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=300,460
position=0
visible=0
zorder=8
ident=GPS_PANEL
gauge00=gps!gps, 0,60,300,400
Copy this and paste it in your cfg. You should see a new window choice in the "VIEWS" menu. Change the X to what ever sequential number you need. Enjoy!
Do be advised though, the 747's usually don't have it like this, but you can add it for sim versions - I find it easier to fly with it too on the much more complex sims like the Level D-767, just wanting to start to get into that one again.... By the way, this method works on ALL aircraft....
Well... you shouldn't need a GPS in that bird. You already have all the information you need, plus the real aircraft doesn't have one. Most of us got this plane for the realism.

The PMDG is a realistic sim. You must use the FMC. With it, you can see your flight plan from beginning to end by setting you LED to "plan" and making sure everything is set correctly the plane will fly itself. You can't just turn on the AP and turn it off. Nasty things happen. You have to be the PMDG. It does not want you just grabbing the yoke and flying around. Flying gets very dramatic and noisy if you do.
I had the advantage that many at Real World ATC know how to fly it and so I had someone in the flightdeck telling me every step (using TeamViewer). Otherwise, there are pages that have volumes on how to fly just the 747. Now everyone is trying out the MD-11.
Try the PMDG site for ideas or get into that super technical manual.
You got your hands full with that bird. It is a great reward, once you master it.

Putting the default GPS in the PMDG-747 would be like covering the statue of David with Playdoh.
The PMDG 747 navigation system is as good as it gets. It might seem like a steep learning curve if you've never used FMS before, but really pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
I'd recommend you view the video's in the link below. There are about 9 of them in the series on how to program the FMC, and it it geared for the PMDG-737, but you can easily follow it with your 747 FMC.

PMDG has a set of 4 lessons that teach you how to properly fly the Queen. It starts with a cold dark cockpit and walks you thru every step. Other lessons cover take-offs and landings and much more. The Angle of Attack lesson videos are also quite good and highly recommended. It does have a steep learning curve, but it's fun when you have it down...pushing the big iron!! Good luck!
the FMC is nice however still have a little bit more to learn I keep getting a FMC message and something can't be right.
Just my opinion but why spend the money for the PMDG 747 if you dont want to learn how to use it correctly. might as well have just saved money and used the default 747. Read the books on the plane and use youtube for help with the fmc. i learned how to use the fmc and would never go back to gps on the heavies. its like a whole new way of flying on the sim. trust me, well worth the head aches and long hours reading![]()
I know it's pain to do, but what I found helpful when I first bought the PMDG744, was to print off ALL the manuals. That way I was able to read and study at my leisure, both with, and without running the sim.
Happy FMCing;-)
