Thread: Sharing FS9 between accounts

    Default Sharing FS9 between accounts

    Hello,

I've a problem in sharing my FS9 with another user on the same PC. I've copied the shortcut across and FS loads normally, however, all the controls (CH Yoke, Throttles and Pedals) have defaulted to very strange settings and end up controlling very little!

I've disabled joystick and have on my (working) account used FSUIPC to assign control axis etc.

Am I missing something fundamental here?

    Thanks!

    Hi Martin,

As far as I know FS2004 is normally installed for a single user, with the assignments configured within that user's profile. If FS2004 really does run in the other account maybe all that's needed is to load Windows with the other account and configure the devices.

For Registry purposes each Account is like a separate computer and FS2004 should be properly installed in each. I won't dwell on the licensing issues, but normally you purchase one licence for one PC.

    Hi,

I think that each user has his/her own fs9.cfg file. When *you* started up FS9 for the first time, it created a new fs9.cfg file with only the default assignments for you. If you would now copy the cfg file in the other user's folder into yours, you should have his/her assignments back.

    Hope this helps,

There are personalized data/settings in both the user appdata and in "my documents". These need to be copied over to the other user.

Hello, and thanks for all of your replies. If each user has their own cfg file, where would the other users one be?. I will try to configure the controls in my Son's account using fsuipc, unless there is a folder in their I can transfer to somewhere?

I must reiterate that its ONE PC I am concerned with, its just giving my son access to my FS9 thru HIS Windows account

Sorry to be a pain, but I think its my knowledge of managing accounts in XP thats lacking!

If you go to your Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9 subdirectory you will see the FS9.cfg file (on your boot drive; usually C: ). You will find a 'Username' directory for each login on the system... as noted in an earlier response, each user also has a 'My Documents' or 'Username Documents' that contains a subdirectory called 'Flight Simulator Files'. The fsuipc config is universal and lives in the FS9\modules subdirectory.
