X-Box controller for the PC

Hi Guys, I'm trying to fly with CFS2, thinking it a compromise between CFS1 and what is supposed to be a CPU etc hungry CFS3.
The keyboard/mouse option, for me, was harder than real flying so I got the X-Box controller for Windows.
I can't move for buttons, joysticks and triggers but none seem to fly the plane.
Am I flying up the wrong road or will only a genuine joystick do?
