If you want similar colour reproduction from and LCD compared to what you get with CRTs, you need to look at the more expensive models. Virtually all models that sell for $400-$500 and under are the cheaper TN based monitors, especially those in the 22-24" range, that aren't very good with colour. The best colour reproduction come from those based on MVA/PVA or S-IPS LCD panels.

A quick way to tell what type of panel the monitor uses is to check the viewing angles. TN monitors have viewing angles in the 160/160 or 170/160 horizontal/vertical range, whereas the xVA and S-IPS models are around 178/178.

I have a setup with three screens for the cockpit and one for the charts.

    Config:
CPU: Intel Quad Core Q6600 OC'd to 3.4MHz.
    Mobo: GigaByte GA-P35-DS3R.
RAM: 2x 2048 GB Corsair Dominator.
    PSU: Antec 850W Truepower.
LCD: 3x Acer 19" square, and 1x Acer 17" widescreen.
    Matrox TH2Go.
Graph: Nvidia 8800 GT 512 MB Super Clocked.
    Frames: 30+ fps
CH-Products yoke, pedals and Throttle Quadrant.

This works great for me and my add-ons, like MytrafficX, several scenery's and ground textures, LevelD767, PMDG747 and the Maam DC3.
I did spend many hrs tweaking to get the results mentioned.

Kendal - I built the desk and the throttle console. I keep modifiying it as I build . I am only using 1 computer to run the whole rig.

Mnpilot - not a special motherboard, just a modern one. Today's newer motherboards have multiple PCIe connections which allow for multiple video cards. Just to say, on my older rig I was using one AGP card and a standard PCI card doing the exact setup with Windows XP. Frame rates were a little low. With new machine I am running very smoothly

    Madfred,
    I have similar specs.
    Q6600 (not overclocked yet)
    EVGA 8800gt (non-overclocked version)
    TH2Go Digital (just purchased it)
    750w PC Power and cooling
    Asus P5Q Pro MB
    4gb Ram Corsair 800mhz (2x 2gb)
Thinking of what size lcd monitors I can set up with reasonable FPS.

    Question: Have you tried 3 x 22" monitors (3x 1680x1050 res)?
What is your resolution on your 3 x 19"?

Do you think that if I OC my Q6600 I will be able to get decent FPS on 3x22" display? Should I be ok if I leave my 8800gt non-OC'd?

Regarding your 30fps, how are your sliders placed in FSX? especially ground detail and Autogen?

    Thanks

I believe the TH2Go is limited to 3 monitors with 1280x1024 resolution, which is why 19" monitors are used. You could run 3 22" ones, but the resolution would be limited to 1280x1024.

There is now a program you can download that will enhance the limitation to 1680x1050. Here part of the announcement on the Matrox web site. Go the this link for the complete article:

Thanks for the update. I suspect that running 3 monitors at 1680x1050 would have a noticeable effect on performance with anything lower than the 8800GT series cards. Even then, you may want something a little more powerful or an SLI setup.

I ended up setting up 3 22" monitors with TH2Go Digital. I barely get any FPS, however, even having disabled AA. I have a 8800gt 512mb but I am looking at upgrading to either 9800gx2, gtx280, or 4870x2.

Does anybody know if ATI 4870x2 supports resolution of 5040x1050 with Triplehead2go? I need to call Matrox because their website indicates that ATI's maximum supported resolution with TH2Go is 3840x1024 (probably a driver issue). Nvidia gpu's tend to be about 20-30% faster for FSX than ATI but I need a card that can give me the best fps on a combined resolution of 3x22" monitors (1680x1050).

Anybody have any suggestions or experience with this resolution for FSX?

    My rig:
    Asus P5Q Pro MB; Q6600 @ 3.0ghz, 4gb or RAM Corsair 800mhz, 750W PC power and cooling, 8800gt 512, wd640gb HD, Vista 64, display 3 x 22" Acer x223w, TripleHead2Go Digital.
