Thread: Baron VC gauge removal

  1. Default Baron VC gauge removal

Recently I was working on putting second GNS430 onto the Baron as the COM/NAV2 of the plane (with GNS530 as COM/NAV1). Therefore I moved the DME and ADF gauge from their own place and put it where the old COM/NAV2 gauge is.

After hours of adjustment, 2D panel looks great. But in VC, I had a problem of DME and ADF gauge been having lower part of ADF gauge gone missing. I had repainted the VC texture file, but same thing happen.

So when I // out the panel.cfg of both DME and ADF gauge, I found out there is this old COM/NAV2 gauge "black box" remain on the VC. And I think that's the reason why my ADF gauge is missing the lower part.

So is there a way for me to remove that black box, or modify the size of black box in order to fit both DME and ADF gauge into the VC?

    Thanks for the help!!

    Hi Bob,

In simple terms the VC panel is usually created in the Model, with "holes" for the gauges to show through. Short of direct replacement of gauges for different ones at exactly the same position and size, what you can do is limited. If you replace a round gauge with a square one you may well see the corners of the square gauge "cut off behind" the panel.

Thanks for the information, so there is no way I can even remove the hole since that's not possible to temper with the model?

    Hi Bob,

Usually users have problems adding extra gauges to the VC and their not showing up, rather than removing gauges to leave a "hole".

Thus you're usually limited to direct replacement. Unless you carry out a "swap" so that the number of gauges present remains the same you're better off leaving things as they were.

In your case you swapped the default NAV2/COM2 for the second GNS430, which should work in the VC even if the GNS430 is slightly taller than the Bendix-King NAV/COM (the GPS will just look slightly "squashed" in the VC.) If you can't replicate the changes you made in the 2D panel you may have to live with some minor instrumentation differences between the 2D and VC panels.

Any "molded relief" associated with the original instrumentation fit (knobs etc.) will probably remain and "show through" the replacement gauges.

Thanks alot for all the help, now I am all clear with the gauge thing.

I guess I will have to live with lower half of ADF gauge been missing, till the new future technology can be used to modify the VC into a more perfect views.

    Thanks again...^^
