Thread: Why has it been so difficult?

Default Why has it been so difficult?

I'm kinda curious about the difficulties that have been encountered with FSX on for developers. I only ask because the premier design houses such as Dreamfleet, have been slow in product introductions. Lets face it, there is a dearth of quality FSX addons. And those that have been announced have been slow to show. Is it the combo of Vista and FSX? Or have the workings of FSX and service packs just adding complexity beyond reason.

Also, any one know if/when FS11 is going to be designed? Is this what the designers are waiting for?

    Just curious.

Carenado sure is cranking them out. Five full FSX aircraft released this year. No disrespect intended. I'm just curious how Carenado is able to do it, but the once prolific powerhouses Dreamfleet and Flight 1 can't. The usual answer is: small staff, difficulty working with FSX/Vista, very low profit margins. Does that not also apply to Carenado? I would love to be able to hand over some of my hard earned cash to Dreamfleet. Unfortunately, I cannot buy what does not exist. So Carenado gets my business because they have the goods. It's that simple.

With all due respect, it is a whole lot different to create complex glass ladened aircraft as opposed to 1970's style analog outdated avionics.
Keep your eye on the F1 Mustang. http://www.mustang.flight1.net

That will show you exactly why it takes what it takes.

Jim, I know Flight 1 is working on the Mustang. I am sure it will set a new standard for that class of aircraft. While I am greatly looking forward to it, I also very much like classic 1970's piston singles. They may be "outdated", but most pilots learned to fly in, still fly, and have tremendous nostalgia for old birds. Carenado has done a beautiful job modeling 1970's vintage piston singles. That is their specialty. I did not mean to say that Flight 1 can't produce good FSX aircraft. You do have several very good aircraft for FSX and the best is coming soon! Like many others I'm just disappointed that, more than two years after release, there have been relatively few good add-on aircraft for FSX. Relatively few of the good FS9 aircraft have been updated for FSX. Yes, I realize it is not a simple process. I especially miss the Bonanza,Baron (Dreamfleet), Commander 112A, and Cessna 421 (Flight 1) - still hoping for an FSX 421.

    Best regards,
    Anthony Clark

I understand what you are saying and appreciate that fact. However, I am simply responding to your question as to why Carenado seems to be able to produce a handful of aircraft and others possibly are not.

Complexity is a huge factor. The average user really has no idea how many man hours, time and effort go into producing something that is complex. Carenado aircraft seem to be well done and fit the part well, but they are not complex. Creating complex and modern aircraft / avionics is a massive effort and truly a bargain for what this cottage industry is producing and what the market seems to bear. However, comparing modern avionic equipped aircraft and non-modern from a development point of view isn't apples for apples. Again, no disrespect intended.

Another point as suggested earlier, the transition from FS9 to FSX was almost devastating to the 3rd party developers. MSFS did a terrible job of transitioning the developer into the fray of problems, changes and end solutions from introduction to where we are today. In the end, we held the bag as we always usually do. That is a tuff situation for many and worse than that for others but it cost developers a lot of down time, corrections, re-corrections and ultimately a lot of money to make the transition to where we are today. Some made it. Some didn't. Lets hope they do better in the future.

    Regards,

    Jim

Thanks jim for the reply. Most of the FSX aircraft have been ported over from FS9. Some work, some don't. The prolific publishers seem to be using stock gauges from FSX.

Looking forward to the Mustang and hopefully a new C421. Since it is a Dreamfleet forum, I hope Paul is working hard on the B727 and DC8

Indeed he is.......well the 727 anyway, the DC-8 will follow.

And as Jim popped in, I'm also looking forward to the Mustang, even though it seems to be filled with all this new fangled gagetry

Or maybe they are just fed up with the "when new plane?" threads that pop up every few days....

As Jim and others have said many times... Carenado can rebuild models which are not complex a lot sooner than those who build more complexity into their projects.

Another reason is that all the work we've done over two years to bring things to FSX/SP2/DX10 Compliance has set back new projects so each developer must decide the best path forward.

I remember when we took over the Twin Comanche project that we made it FSX/SP2/DX10 right out of the box and that set back other projects as well.
