Default How to use LNAV and VNAV

    Friends,
I bought a couple of flight panels addons today for my FSX 747, and I am having a hard time to use the NAV HOLD FUNCTION.

Using the MS FSX default Instrument panel for 747-400 Boeing livery, if I had to fly a 747 on GPS Mode I would load my flight plan (say for e.g JFK to LAX) I have mentioned the sequence followed

    1. Take off from JFK and climb to the cruizing altitude.
    2. Switch on the Autopilot, switch on the ALTITUDE HOLD.
    3. Turn the KNOB to select GPS mode for NAV HOLD ON.

Now the aircraft would automatically head towards LAX following the GPS directions...And this is how you would choose between GPS or NAV for your directions and ILS approaches.

How do I use my new Instrument panel, which comes with an FMC and not a GARMIN GPS display? I did follow their user manual to activate their VNAV after FMC is loaded with my flight plan. But since I was always used to select GPS MODE as provided in MS FSX panels, I dont know how to use LNAV and VNAV in my new instrument panels. I tried taking off from JFK, climb to an altitude of 10000ft (put an ALTITUDE HOLD using AUTOPILOT). Now when turn on the VNAV switch in the instrument panel, the ALTITUDE that I had set (at 10000 ft) automatically drops down to 200ft and the PLANE nose dives. May be my understanding VNAV doing the same JOB as GPS mode is wrong...Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks
    Vijayraj

    Smile Vnav and lnav

Did'nt have either during my active flying career. "Gen up" if you can afford them Mike Ray's manuals are excellent. Get the Flying the BOieng 700 series, Flying the Airbus, and his 747 check ride,. As soon as money permits I'm gonna pick up his super Guppy checkride. Also head over to his site at UTEM.COm, he has some stuff in pdf format
