Thread: Flightsim.com RTW Forum

    Default Flightsim.com RTW Forum

First off, I want to say how pleased I am to see new faces showing interest in this little competition. We're always looking for new pilots to help us handle the massive workload that goes into the RTW, and we appreciate your interest.

But of course, with the rookies come a lot of questions about the finer points of the race rules. The race veterans understand that the rules can be overwhelming at times. (We even joke about hiring lawyers to help decipher them!)

I believe now would be a very good time to introduce the RTW rookies to our private RTW forum, which is located at the following address:

    http://johannesmueller.com/fsforum

Go ahead and register for the forum. At first, you'll only be able to look at the public areas of the forum. Send a private message to "John Mueller" (Who's the site Admin) or to Reggie Fields (RFields5421 is his username on the site) and let them know that you intend to race for Team Flightsim in 2009. Eventually they should give you access to Team Flightsim's Private Section. This is a place where we can freely discuss strategy without worrying about prying eyes from Avsim or SimOuthouse. There's a ton of great information contained in these forums about past races, recommended aircraft, flying tips, and various lessons learned from previous runnings of the race.

Come to think of it, now wouldn't be a bad time to start a RTW 2009 roll call for us. So rookies and veterans alike, head to the site and be present and accounted for!

    Lightbulb Good idea

    Yeah,

This was sadly under used for the 08 RTW.

Thinking about a password protected, Admin always present, TS planning room open 24/7 from a few days before start untill finish.

I quite agree, and I've said it before. There's far too much 'loose talk' on this forum.

Regulars, please don't answer the detailed questions here.

Rookies, please think before posting questions. Use the secure forum or PM us.

What does a guy have to do to get a reply on the private forum?
Reggie, John, sent you a private message regarding participation to the race on http://johannesmueller.com/fsforum. Could you please just accnowledge receipt of the message.
Guess one can tell - I'm really interrested in joining for the race.

    Thumbs up

    Hey Gunter,

You don't need any response, this event is open to all who wish to particpate.

There is only one stipulation to flying in any RTW Race and that is to "show-up" and be ready to have a go. Say whatever you want in either forum the only thing that means something is what you actually do.

In spite of all the secrecy and private forums the vast majority of the planning is done right on TS dynamically as the race is being run.

We are fortunate to have some genius planners in house. Reggie Fields, Smitty, Geno and Swit_zer, just to mention a few cause the list can go on a bit more.

Any one can plan out the whole race, problem is as soon as one of the airports in the plan is compromised due to a diversion, the rest of the plan is no good and immediately has to be revised. If the author is not on-line at the time, then whoever is has to step up.

Just be there,,,,watch, listen, comment, be a part of the whole thing.

That will allow you to better choose when you might want to fly as some time of the day or some area or some aircraft that is needed to fulfill a requirement might be your particular area of expertise or just plain more comfortable for you.

I can't remember in any of the races where a "pilot" that had expressed an interest in a particular leg and was told no. It is the simple strategy of playing strenths against weaknesses. It is in the team's best interest to have someone flying that is comfortable with the flight.

If you answered the role call,,,you're on the team. It's that simple.

    Best regards,

    Salt,
thanks for the reply. Didn't mean to sound like a rant.
I had problems with the PM system on the private forum, and was not sure the PM went out. Looked like I was sending to myself only.
Anyways, guess it's official, I'm on the team .

There is a question posted in the private forum regarding the Duenna.

I didn't know the answer so thought I'd pass it along here.

And new pilots should visit the private forum and read past threads, get to know your way around.

    Default Coppa???

I just attempted to Register for Johann Muller's DUENNA Forum.. I was sent back a COPPA Form to have my parents sign to authorize me to gain access to the forum..
Small problem.. My Dad passed away in 1970, My Mom in 1998.. She was eighty-two at the time.. Would it be okay if I had my Twenty-Four year old son sign the COPPA Form??
