Thread: Basic use of Flight Environment X

  1. Default Basic use of Flight Environment X

Just purchased Flight Environment X and have registered and run the application.

I am sat on the master screen main screen, and have clicked install Select Theme which said it was installing FEX Default.

After this completed I Click Launch FSX.

I then selected a helicopter and sat at EGBB airport.

I took off an flew around the airport but I couldn't notice anything different from before installing this.

Am I missing a fundamental step out?
Do I have to install the theme each time I start FSX?
Could it be I won't see anything from just flying around the airport in the daytime?
The clouds didn't look any different to FSX without FEX?
Do you have to run FEX every time to get the themes loaded into FSX?
How do you select which theme you want when in FSX or do you always select this from FEX?

Also, does anyone else have the problem with TrackIR when running FEX. I seem to lose the ability to Centre (F12) and enable/disable (F9) whilst in FSX now...

    Sorry for all the quesitons.

    Hope you can help.

    Mark,

First, you DON'T have to run FEX Every time you run FS X, select the themes, set them, and forget them - that's the beauty of it.

You should notice the difference in cloud textures if you chose clouds other than the Default Cloud settings.

You should also really fool around with the water settings, and you will see drastic improvements. Fly around areas near the coast to really notice them.

When you look throught the manual, you will learn alot of what this great program has to offer. There are many themes to choose from, and you can mix and match as much as you want - you'll love it when you get the hang of it!

    Thanks for info.

Just so I know that I am setting it up correctly, can you confirm what I am doing is actually correct:-

    1. Load FEX
    2. Goto Master Themes
    3. Select Natural Look
    4. Click Select Themes
    5. Goto Main
    6. Click Install Selected Themes
    7. Launch FSX

Let me know if this is correct for basic use?

    Thanks

    Click on the following link:
    http://www.flightenvironment.com/fil..._manual_v2.pdf
This is a new manual for FEX that will answer all of your questions

Found this on the FEX forum:

Remember when you select the SHD cloud effects( or make a change) ,launch FSX the first time from FEX-this will enable the SHD effect.

  5. Default

Something I have noticed when using Flight Environment X, I have just been flying over the swiss alpes at FL330 and all the clouds below me seem to be almost re-drawing themselves near to the mountains, its like the mountain is poking through them but the effect doesn't look anything like real. The clouds almost appear to be flickering.

I have changed my weather settings in FSX to be the following:-

    Medium - High
    Cloud Draw Distance = 60mi/96km
    Thermal Visualisation = none
    Detailed Clouds
    Medium Density

    Downwinds aloft = unticked
    Disable turbulence = unticked
Rate at which weather changes = No Change

Any ideas on why this would be?

Do I need my weather settings as High in FSX?

    Thanks
