Lately whenever I download a file i.e. aircraft or panel etc. I cannot delete the file from my computer. Meaning I used to move it from the folder onto my desktop and it would usually copy it onto the desktop and leave the original in the folder and I would then delete the folder. Now when I right click on the file it does not give me the option to delete. I've now been just closing the box and who knows where it goes (where does it go BTW?). I'm probably wasting space on my computer. Any ideas? Oh and I think this has been happening since I upgraded my Firefox. It could be just a coincidence.

Your browser update should not have affected the creation and/or deletion of folders.

I am not sure I understand exactly what you are describing however.

If you create a New folder (on your desktop for instance), are you saying that by right clicking on that New folder, that you do not get a menu with Delete as an option?

That is a basic Operating System option and if you cannot do that, you may have a serious problem.

    Please try to clarify.

It is possible that there are (technically non-existent) duplicate files here. It's lengthy and hard to explain, but, in any case, download and install Unlocker 1.8.7 and then delete using the Unlocker Assistant, if you need to delete the files right now.

Your quandary cannot be permanently solved unless you provide details.

    Hi Pont22,
Are you still able to delete by dragging to the recycle bin? What about highlighting the file, then hitting the delete button?

(The menu is called the Context menu)

Make sure you are logged in as the Admin for your system.

I have used Unlocker and it does work when I have the occasional file that will just not delete. (Or move or change for the matter).
Using unlocker, you'd right click on the file, and you have the option to unlock whatever program is using it, then you can delete.
But you say that you don't even have the delete option on the right click list.

Or, is the delete option greyed out?

Is this only on the recently downloaded files, or are you not able to delete any file?

One last thing, have you tried to reboot, and/or revert to an earlier save point?

The list of options is called the Context Menu. You can add or delete items that you don't use, such as a previous program you have deleted, but still have the option in a right click.

I didn't read all the info here, but these sites will let you see how to edit the contect menu. One site has an editor where you can add or delete menu items.
The others explain how to do this in the registry. Remember to backup your registry.

I can't say why the option to delete is not there. Usually you will see the delete there, and if you try to delete you might get an error. like the file in in use, etc.

Here's the sites, amd hopefully someone can come in and help you with the process.

    Good luck,

    Default Deleting files and folders

Strange problem you've got. Remember, when you get it right, that by highlighting the file or folder and hitting the DELETE button, the file will go into the recycle bin, where it is still taking up space on your hard drive. By holding the shift button while you hit del. it will be deleted forever. I always use this option when I'm sure that I won't need it again.

    Hi,
Yes, the shiuft/ DEL doutes it directly into oblivion. Personally, I have done that bfore to a file by mistake, and from that time on, files go to the Recycle bin, so I have a last chance making sure I don't want the file.

Anyhow, I was trying to see if Pont can delete a file at all, or if it's just the context menu that does not have the option.

I really have not heard of the item disappearning from the menu before, something in the registry may have been overwritten, deleting that value.

Once in a while, an overzealous "registry healer" utility might wipe out something you need.

    Let us know.
    Gary.

Dear Dave, Gary, Stan, thanks for your replys and sorry for my delay in responding. Let me explain this a little better.
When I NOW download a new aircraft for example, (I haven't used winzip in over a year) I opens up to a folder which I then have to paste & copy to my desktop, there make any changes i.e. panel sound etc. or to the main aircraft folder as is. I then would delete-and when I would right click the box would come up which included the delete option-the original from the original folder. It would almost always work smoothly. Now when I right click the "delete" word is missing but only when I try to delete the original download. The word is there when I delete stuff from the desktop or the aircraft, sound, gauges etc. folders. BTW I tried going in thru Internet Explorer and it works fine from there. It's Mozilla where this occurs. Thanks

Since I only use IE and Winzip I cannot offer any advice other than if it works properly in IE then why not use it instead of Mozilla?
