Thread: Multiple Scenery add-ons?

    Default Multiple Scenery add-ons?

    Hey Guys,
I have all the Hifi sim addons, Zinertek Ultimate Night, and now FS Global 2008. Is it wise to install all of them?
I have a bunch of other stuff too, like, Co Pilot Pro, ATC Simulator Pro, FS FLying school...
so having all these textures, am I just wasting money?

    Hi Kelly,

In order to answer the question you have to appreciate what it is that each of the titles you mention brings to the simulator.

If the item in question replaces, say, the ground textures, then as the sim can only use one set of these textures at a time you have to make a choice as to which you use.

As an example both Flight Environment and Active Sky Graphics can supply replacement sky and cloud textures. Both are excellent, but only one or the other sets can be used.

Where the packages contribute something different, which nothing else does, the choice is simply whether or not to use it. When two (or more) packages contribute the same thing you will have to decide for yourself.

If you already have something that adds to the sim then getting something else that does the same thing would indeed be a waste of money unless it is significantly better than what you currently use.

Well I think that's what I want to know, what's better... HiFi's XGraphics or FS Global 2008 since it seems they do the same thing?

    Hi Kelly,

FS Global provides mesh scenery, whereas X-Graphics provides replacement textures. As such they compliment rather than conflict with one another.

So, I was just handed FS Genesis (FS X Media bundle), how would this fit in?

    Hi Kelly,

FSGenesis specialise in mesh scenery, so it will do the same thing (as far as I can tell) as the FSGlobal mesh scenery. Which of the two you use will depend on the resolution and which of the two you feel gives the best results.
