    Right handed male?

isn't that discrimination? what about females?

Not if for the specific purposes of the study a male is required for some reason.
Wouldn't it be lovely to have a job that you enjoy so much, that when you get home from work you run computer simulations of it?

    What reason?

    mgh,

Perhaps they're studying the performance of right handed males rather than the experimental controls systems per se. After all, most fighter pilots are right handed males, so it might be of interest for them to find out whether the intellectual and hand-eye coordination skills sets for flying multiple UAVs are the same as those for flying fighters.

I'm speculating, of course. But if they wanted to be politically correct the personnel spec would have read completely differently.

Well, for example, if the evaluation model was going to be used solely by a male pilot as he had ordered it....or if they were running a parallel study for female pilots.

The problem nowadays is that as soon as someone makes a gender stipulation it's very easy to shout 'discrimnation' however the reality is that in many cases it is perfectly legal to stipulate gender/race/colour/age etc.

Really? Really....Fashion model required to show the latest womenswear range....elderly black female actress required to play lead role's Jamaican grandmother...get the picture?

There is a legal principle called GOQ, standing for Genuine Occupational Qualification.

    Well,

If you watch fo this you'll find that most fighter pilots are short by male standards, and a disproportionate fraction of them have blue eyes. They're also, without exception, very agressive Type A personalities.

It's outrageous, I tell you. Also, where's the ambidextrous cockpit? I want side force controllers on both sides, and ditto for the piccolo throttles. It's just not fair that righties get all the breaks.

    well said Mike

Reason: the system they've built was designed to be right handed because that's what's standard across the industry (and of course some 80% of people are righthanded, the bastards).
And they want a male because the majority of future users will be male and both the male physiology and psychology are different from that of females.
It might not be politically correct, but it is scientific fact.

If you aren't a right handed male, nobody cares. GO cry about it somewhere else. The equipment requires you to be a right handed male, it is NOT a personal affront to your gender, or dexterity.

    Hopefully someone found this useful.

Oh well, I don't live in the "Local Bay Area." Sounds like a lot of fun though...
