Thread: White out while clicking on controls

  1. Default White out while clicking on controls

Sometime the screen whites out when clicking on the control buttons such as auto pilot, APR, speed, NAV, ...

I had FSX installed for a while, but haven't played it much until recently to check out a new video card. I also installed SP1 and SP2, but back to back without running FSX once after the SP1 update. Not sure if this really matters.

    System specs:

    Intel Core 2 extreme X6800, 2.93ghz
    Intel D975XBX motherboard, 2GB 4-4-4-10 Patriot DDR2 ram.
ATI HD4870 video card - Catalyst 8.9 drivers.
    Soundblaster X-Fi (platinum)
    Windows XP SP3.

Two CH-Products USB joysticks (right is pitch and roll, left is throttle and yaw, same as a USA type radio control transmitter, I fly rc gliders).

And in case anyone remembers, no my wife wasn't using a word processor on my computer:

Not sure if this is causing the issue, but it does matter that you run FSX once after each service pack. Consider uninstalling each sevice pack, then run FSX after SP1 before installing SP2 and see if the issue remains.

If you are refering to the 2d panel, this is a well known bug in FSX.

It can be eliminated by unchecking " Show cockpit tool tips" in settings> aircraft.

Yes, it was the 2d panel. Will turn off the tool tips, as the white occurs while moving the mouse over a button, as opposed to clicking the button as I originally thought.

As JoeD said, this was a pretty common occurrence with one fix by turning off the tool tips. I believe it was a video driver issue in the end. After upgrading my drivers some time ago, I haven't had that problem and I'm running the tool tips. When was the last time you updated them?

  6. Default Computer resolution to fsx resolution

I do not know for certain but try matching your fsx resolution to computer resolution.

Removing the tips solved the white out problem. Catalyst 8.9 drivers are the lastest. The ATI HD4870 is a new video card, but so far it's been working with other game, although I haven't tested it a lot yet.

    Cool

It does to me, but usually next at the “blank” it refreshes or downloads the weather (every 15 min)
