Default Help with external hard drive?

Ok so long story short awhile back i had a hard drive crash on my dell xps so i got a new hard drive installed on my computer. I sent to my hard drive to one of my uncles to see if he could recover any data. he was able to recover everything and did so by encasing the hard drive and making it an external hard drive with usb 2.0 connection so i plugged it in and copied Microsofts flight simulato fsx to the new hard drive i thought everything was going great and it copied all the files but when i went to open it i got an error
this application failed to start becuase application configuration is incorrect

Even if i try to run fsx directly from the external drive i get an error
the msxml4 sp2 component is not installed please re-install flight simulator or repair the missing component

I'm not sure where the cd to the program is otherwise i would just install it from the cd so my question would be how can i get this program to run on the new hard drive would i have to copy the registry file too. thanks

    Two probs with this:

1 - Simply copying the files to your external drive will not work. You would need to do a full install using the original disks in order for the program pointers to be correct.

2 - Even if you got FSX installed to the external hard drive it would run very badly because external USB drives have a very slow data transfer rate compared to internal drives. FSX is constantly reading texture files so a fast hard drive is essential. The main purpose of a USB hard drive is for backup/storage not for running programs especially programs that depend upon fast data transfer.

Your better to install FSX fresh, then copy over the appropriate backup files, like add-on scenery and traffic, specific aircraft, etc to the new installation. That way you won't run into registry issues and Noell is right on about trying to run FSX from an external - not good.
