Default What do I do now?

I'm trying to create a seaplane AFCAD for San Luis Reservoir in California (0O0). But there is a serious problem.

AirNav puts the lake at 544ft ASL. The default AFCAD is at 544ft ASL. But MicroSoft put the lake surface at 356ftASL.

I started a new AFCAD setting the airport parameters and the runway to 356ft. That works fine until I put a runway link on the runway. Now when I taxi to the runway I immediatly jump to 544 feet as soon as I come over the link.

Has anyone run into this problem before? Is there a solution or is it a lost cause?

This is an interesting situation - but really not that uncommon. MS have been known to have strange elevations in various spots which do not relate to the real world.

I just did a little experimenting with the Reservoir and with the default Afcad. The only way I was able to get a "useable" situation was to set the airport Properties and runway elevation at 356 feet ASL.

Then I used the ultility called JABBgl to edit the default airport data which is located in the Scenery/Namw/scenery folder - the file is named AP915180.BGL. I lowered the default elevation to 108.508 meters - which is the same as 356 feet.

The JABBgl utility can be found here:

In Afcad I also changed the default runway to 1 foot width (no lines or lights) and changed the property of it to cement (yes cement) rather than water. The taxiway (also cement) from a sample parking spot I added was set at 0 feet width with no lines or lights. That made everything "dissapear" and gave me a clean lake surface upon which to operate.

EDIT added: I may not have needed to do the last series of changes but I am in the habit of so doing when I create Afcads for AI traffic on waterways - which is what I guess you may be trying to do.

Granted you will not end up with a real world elevation situation, but you can achieve a uesable compromise.

    Hope these comments are helpful.
