Thread: Crash to desk top

  1. Default Crash to desk top

I had asked this question a while back and for some reason the problem just stopped happening but is back again. Can anyone tell me what causes this problem? When I change the view on a plane (any plane) the hour glass thing (shows loading) continues to work for short period of time and then FSX crashes to desktop? I am using the default plane for startup, panel view. Thanks.

    I have a
    Dell XPS 700 computer
    Intel Core2 Duo Processor E6400 (2.13GHz, 1066FSB) DualCore & 2MB cache
    NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS
    Video driver 163.75
    4GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
    Windows XP SP3
    FSX SP1

    Hi,

    Try a newer video driver.
    Thanks,

    Default Me too

Thanks for your message. Interestingly I thought this was a Vista problem which I am using. I have said similar in another post that I was contemplating rolling back to XP but it seems like it is a FSX thing as it happens to me too. Sometimes I can get back in the standard cockpit and fly on instruments, but most of the time it just hangs and I get the proverbial "Vista has encountered a problem with FSX, restarting". Great just when I have flown 90% of the way.

It's spasmodic but annoying when it happens especially if I have done the whole FMGC routes. I have a decent dual core PC, 2gB mem and a NV8900 256mB grfx card with latest drivers which I can get 60+fps so I am convinced it's not a performance/card issue.

I do get sometimes garbled sound at the same time if that helps. Switching "views" changes the sound relative to the view it should be showing but just shows junk on the screen, if I go back to the original view, hit Esc and Esc again it rights itself for the original view at least.

I have been getting random FSX lockups the past few weeks too. I was also getting errors when loading up at different airports KSAT as an example. Received an error about changing scenery, etc. I just uninstalled FSX and am going to do a clean reinstall. I am currently using the Nvidia 169.21 display driver. I notice you are using Win XP SP3. I remember when it was first released there were numerous bugs that surfaced so I am stll using SP2.
Do you have an anti-virus protection? I always disable mine before running FS.

    Aviator0327,

Don't forget to run FSX at least once before and after installing the free standing SP2 package, and don't forget that no addons should be installed till after the SP2 install/fly is complete.

I had so many CTD's in FSX that I returned to FS9 after many month's of searching, reading, testing and tweaking. And then I had them again in FS9! Back to the testing stage again. I have 3GB of GEIL 800 ram with was supposed to run at 4-4-4-12; and it did; nearly all my applications..... Changing the timings to 5-5-5-18 ended all my CTD's!
    Hope this helps somebody!

I have been disabling my anti-virus program. As of a couple of days ago, it has stopped doing that problem again, I don't know what this is all about but it has stopped for now, who knows. Thanks for the replly though.
