    Unhappy Flightsimulator corrupted

    Hello all,
I wanted to be able to have flight simulator 2004 run with a virtual drive, so installed over the previous one, without uninstalling it.
Unfortunatly, disk 2 is corupted, so I been leftwith a half-install. I managed to recover everything but ALL the terrain. what I get is just the basic runway and taxiway, a yellowish ground that does have the ocean and continents, but does not have hills, buildings, trees etc... Is there anything I can do to respore it? I obviously cannot re-install, as the disk is corrupted. Please help, its not much fun to rollback to FS1. Thanks
please add me as a contact on msn - my email on msn is sainsbm@mailbox.co.za

I was attempting to load WinXP on a laptop one time when disc 2 refused to load much like your problem. Just for the fun of it i decided to burn a copy of it and try to load WinXP again with the burned copy. It worked. I then threw away the original disc 2 and kept the copy. You might want to try the same thing. Just an idea.

Is it really corrupted or just a tad dirty? It takes very little in the way of dust or gunk to cause a disk to mis-read. I would try a good, but very careful, cleaning before anything else.

Let me second opaplano's remarks and then add a little to them ...

A good way to clean a CD is to swish it around in warm, mild soapy water. (Don't rub it.) Then rinse it under the tap and let it air dry.

If that doesn't help, try using Windows Explorer to read the entire contents of the CD non-stop into a folder on your hard drive. If you get through that process (and you may very well), you can then burn a replacement CD.

If all else fails, get in touch with Microsoft customer service. They'll send you a replacement CD at a remarkably low price while supplies last, if they still have any. If they don't you can get FS2004 for about $20 these days from any number of online stores, including Wal-Mart.

If it's broken then buy a new one - the same as you do with anything else once it's out of warranty.

    Default Soapy residue

A lot of cleaning soap can leave residue on the cd, particularly those that may contain skin softners and perfumes. It might be better to purchase a cd cleaning kit that comes with a cleaning solution (alcohol) and non-abrasive cleaning clothes.

    IronmanMLR,

A lot of soap will leave a residue but a mild solution followed by a tap water rinse won't.
