djt,
Thanks for posting that link. If you start another (clean) thread under your name giving that same link I'll pin it and lock it. Now ...
I may need to buy another computer, specifically for Vista test purposes. How confident can I be that the Vista it would come with will be SP1? And is Vista SP1 yet available in boxed versions that say SP1?
I'm asking these questions because the Vista machine I purchased in February of 07 came with what I immediately recognized as Vista RC2, my having been a member of the Vista beta test. I had to evict it and install a copy of retail XP SP2 in its place. I don't want to have to repeat this experience with another new machine.

Mike,
I purchased a retail copy of Vista Ultimate at the beginning of the summer that had SP1 already incorporated into it. The other retail copy I purchased late in 2007 was the final release obviously without SP1.

I grabbed the retail version because they come with both a 32 Bit version and a 64 Bit version, two separate DVD’s.
Even the OEM version is now available with SP1 incorporated.

I agree that link should be stickied to the top if this forum. It may not be a bad idea for the newcomers and hardware forum as well. The section about UAC is something many people should read. It may be a little annoying at times, but it does do more than "protect you from yourself", as many assert.
Mike,
I'm pretty sure this was because Vista RTM is basically RC2. It has been a while, but I seem to remember reading that there were few, if any, changes between the two, at least nothing major.I'm asking these questions because the Vista machine I purchased in February of 07 came with what I immediately recognized as Vista RC2, my having been a member of the Vista beta test.
Here's one I recieved in my E Mail from Microsoft .

loki,
As you can see Randy Burton has backed in with still more useful info. (Thanks, Randy.) How about we hold off for a bit to see what else comes in?
Then how about you compose a suitable thread-opening post incorporating all the resulting info. I can pin/lock it here. You're a mod in Newcomers so you could pin/lock it there. Then you could post it to Hardware and send an email to nels@flightsim.com asking webmaster Nels Anderson to pin/lock it.
