Default FS9 Fails to load cannot find DLL

I am desperate. I have already tried the 2004 Forum with no luck. FS9 suddenly decided it could not find 18 dll files. They are there in the Modules folder. I tried rebuilding the cfg file. I have installed/uninstalled several times with no joy. I did a hunt/kill file search to try to eliminate all FS9 orphan files. Still no joy on install, says it cannot find numerous dll, but they are there ? Could this have anything to do with the 9.1 update that I finally installed a few days before this problem surfaced. I have tried to find all 9.1 files and kill them, but I may have missed something. Or is Bill G. objecting to too many installs with 9.1 and having a kill code embedded. I have had to reinstall prior to this disaster on 3 other drives due to drive failures over the years. This is driving me to distraction, not to mention not being able to fly. I will even buy a new boxed set if that will get me back in the air. I thought about X-Plane, but will have to get version 7...no vista in this cockpit. I WILL TRY ANYTHING ( as long as it is legal, moral, and within my somewhat shaky ethics ) TO FIX THIS.

    Mongoose,

Since you say you'll try anything, try this ...

1 - Uninstall FS2004 from all drives, by hand if necessary.

2 - Delete by hand all remaining folders including Flight Simulator 9, the Flight Simulator files folder in My Documents, and the Flight Simulator 9 folder in DocumentsAndSettings, Your Name, ApplicationData, Microsoft. (I might not have all of the folder names exactly right.)

3 - Use the Revo Uninstaller to try to remove all remaining traces of FS2004. (See threads lower down in this forum regarding uninstallers, especially this one http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?t=185703)

4 - Reinstall and see where you are.

5 - If 1-4 don't get you out of coffin corner, zero your hard drive and rebuild the system from scratch, using the 9.1 version of FS2004. If necessary you can buy a copy of 9.1 from any number of online stores, including Wal-Mart, for about $20 US.

6 - Don't blame Microsoft -- I've never heard of your problem before.

    I hope this helps,

    Mongoose,

Life intrudes ... As I like to say, there's more to life than Flight Simulator -- but not a lot more.

Default FS9 Fails to load cannot find dll

I tried 1 through 4 with the same results. It indicates the dll are not able to be accessed. After I get done clicking on each of the offenders FS closes. The dll are in the Modules folder, but the program will not see them for some reason. I am going to buy a new FS9 soon and try that.
    Thanks Again, Mongoose

    Default Yada Yada

Installed new FS9 ( aka 2004 ) fresh out of the box. SAME PROBLEM, 18 dll from Modules folder ( this is not all of the dll by the by ) will not load or are not recognized by program. And yes I can blame Microcrap, Bill Grates has caused me no end of grief over the years with poorly written, compatible only with God, operating systems and programs. I have wasted too much time trying to get this to work.

    Mongoose,

Time for my Step 5 given above ...

Zero your hard drive and then install everything from scratch.

    Default Let's try this again

If you mean format the drive(s), that is not possible. 1. I have 30G worth of stuff more valuable than FS on both drives. 2. If you mean clean out all FS , I have done that on both drives and re-installed on both, including the 9.1 update...and the same problems are still occurring. The real solution is probably a new machine with Vista ( shudder ) and FSX ( double shudder ). I do not have the guts or money to go that route. I just ( WHINE ) want my FS9 back so I can go back to my 'Trash Haulin' ways.

    Mongoose,

You must do as you see fit. However ...

Given all the symptoms, and my apparent difficulty in communicating with you, I don't have time to give you all the reasons why you should zero your hard drive, or all the reasons why buying a dual boot machine (or even a single boot machine) will not rescue your setup but WILL cost you more money. All I can tell you is that your desire not to lose 30 GB of data to a reformat does not mean that you will be allowed to violate the Laws Of Computational Physics.

So, let's try this again one last time in a slightly different way ...

Get yourself a removable HDD drive. Copy the 30 GB of data to it. Then zero your hard drive and reinstall everything. If the 30GB represents installed software such that simply copying it to/from removable won't work, and if you still refuse to Do The Right Thing, you will be out of luck, because copying the 30 GB to a new machine would not then work either.

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Does anybody see this situation differently?
