Default Suggestion for a new FSX Forum

    Hi,
I notice than now more than ever, the FSX forum is flooded with "HELP" threads on how to do this and that, how to install a plane, where the root directory...and many other really basic questions of people just being introduced to FS or with little computer knowledge (actually knowing directory structure and a drice C is really required).

Some other have basic help requests on flying lessons, navigation, ils or vor not working (meaning how do you use it) etc...

In ealier versions of flightsims, it was a hobby for people already with some knowledge of aviation. Popularity of the game makes consumers buying FSX and wanting to fly overnight.

But really in the past the FORUM was more interesting, with many contributions, ideas, deep tweaks, uncommon details of the game revealed, news on add-ons, experiences, etc.
Experienced programmers and editors or developpers actively participated, it was rich conversation...

Now the Forum is very boring sounding more like "babies crying that need help"

I notice that a Begginers Forum was created but people (begginers) dont seem to use it.

So I had the idea of suggesting a Forum called something like "Experienced Users Forum" where you could exchange all sorts of interesting things on the game on a high level of understanding, and politely advising readers that this Forum is not a Help, Tutorial, or Please this and that Doesnt Work, but a place to give information rather than to take.

It would make a place of interesting reading as was this forum in the past.

have you tried the flightsim wikis for some basic answers? also, when I need to know something and do not find a forum answer, I try a general google. it's amazing what Ilearn that way...

    Yes Sherm, you´re right.
Googling is far more quicker in revealing specific issues.
You know why? Because they often point to other forums or blogs, simflights, etc, where the issue has been addressed.

But I miss the "good reading" I enjoyed in the past.

    kapitan,

You wrote "In ealier versions of flightsims, it was a hobby for people already with some knowledge of aviation. Popularity of the game makes consumers buying FSX and wanting to fly overnight."

I guess I'm going to step in here on behalf of the newcomers to our hobby. The purpose of the Newcomer Services forum is not to be an internment camp where newcomers are quarantined so they don't spoil the other forums. Instead it's supposed to be a refuge where people can post without fear of being put down in the other forums. But if they're not afraid to ask questions in the other forums then they're welcome to not use Newcomer Services.

So please don't discourage newcomers from posting here. If their questions have anything at all to do with FSX, even if just by implication, then this forum is the appropriate place for even the least experienced newcomer to ask whatever questions they feel they must ask in order to enjoy both FSX and FlightSim.com.

If you want to chat with folks about aviation matters in general, or about FS-related topics that aren't tied to any particular version of the sim, give the Outer Marker forum a try. I think you'll find it has a high concentration of the kind of members you're after.

    OK.
Yes, I like and enjoy the Outer Marker more.
Wish more folks posted there also.

    Point taken.
I agree not discouraging newcomers is important.

My post was not about discouraging them in THIS forum. On the contrary. They should carry on.

I proposed another forum for more interesting and in-deep FSX realted topics. But guess thats impossible otherwise we would end dividing too much. Will try more the Outer Marker thou, as I said...the pst was different.
