Thread: FSX SCENERY.CFG file error

    Question FSX SCENERY.CFG file error

When I start up FSX :Acceleration on my ASUS notebook (Vista 32) I get :
SCENERY.CFG file error. Invalid Remote scenery Area.128. Click OK to continue.
My scenery.cfg show the last area as AREA.122
It's possible I've installed something and had to shut down the computer without having a chance to check the installation beforehand but cannot remember what.
Is there another version of the cfg that is stored somewhere?
Have done a search for any but only find one. This old brain is still trying to figure Vista out as it relates to XP and not sure I like it.

What is the location (folder) of the one you are looking at/ have found?

    Default FSX SCENERY.CFG error

    Jon:
I found it in the main FSX folder. Don't know why it did not show up when I did a search for "scenery.cfg" on the Vista START page.
I may be wrong but I seem to remember that FS9 has/had two scenery.cfg files , one being a backup.
    Thanks for the prompt reply

I am not running Vista (I run XP) and there is another scenery.cfg file in the same location (folder) as my FSX.cfg file on my setup. I am not sure exactly what it's function is - possibly a backup as you suggested.

I won't try to spell out where that is in Vista as I understand it is different than in XP.

So if you can locate your FSX.cfg file, you should find the second copy of the scenery.cfg file there also. Like FS9 I assume it is a hidden file (and possibly a hidden folder) also.

    Hope this helps.

    Default FSX SCENERY.cfg error

    Thanks gentlemen, Jon and David.
Finally found the little devil. When I tried to do the advanced search I had not noticed a little box which when checked includes non-indexed, hidden, and system files in the search. Checked that and among other items which showed up were two scenery.cfgs. In looking in the properties of each I noted one was labeled "scenery.cfg" and the other "old scenery.cfg" The old had a maximum of 122 areas and I found that one in the main FSX folder. The "newest" has 132 areas and found that to be OZx_AUS but the cfg did not show up in the FSX folder.
I've disabled OZx_AUS scenery and the error has disappeared.
Can't decide which I enjoy most-- flight simming or solving the problems that arise with it.

    Hey Guys,

I am getting the same error message. I have checked my FSX directory, and I don't have any 'Addon Scenery' folder.

I have tryed a "Repair" using the FSX installer, but the folder doesn't appear afterward.

Any suggestion on finding my 'Addon Scenery' folder???

On my FSX setup it is the very first subfolder under Flight Simulator X, followed by Autogen and Categories.

    Hope that helps.
