Thread: Saitek X45 too sensitive when flying

  1. Default Saitek X45 too sensitive when flying

    I hope someone else has experienced this as well and can offer some advise.

    I have Aileron, Elevator and Rudder sensitivity turned to minimum in FSX. Even with this, aircraft are entirely too sensitive and it's starting to affect my flying. I laugh when I'm instructed to point the nose "three degrees" up or down, because the slightest nudge of the joystick sends my plane plummeting to hell or skyrocketing upwards. The rudder is waaay too sensitive also, but I think that has a lot to do with the rocker lever having to little range of motion. Still, it'd be nice to get some sort of reliable control out of it

    Do you folks have any suggestions for further tweaking the sensitivity on the X45? Or is it just the nature of the hardware?

    Thanks in advance.

    FM_Weasel,

    Have you tried calibrating the device?

    It's likely you have something set up wrong. My X-36 (essentially an earlier version of the 45) works fine for gentle handling. Calibration, as Mike mentioned above, is one thing to try. Although it won't help this problem much, you might want to put the following line in the CONTROLS section of your fsx.cfg file:

    stick_sensitivity_mode=0

    It will help reduce (but not eliminate) the slight delay in control response. Also, if you're running the Saitek software, you might consider disabling it and letting FS (Windows) control your stick -- works fine for me.

    There are some other settings you can change, but not having the sim running, I'll have to wait until later to discuss them.

    It's calibrated. And I'm using the windows set up, the Saitek software doesn't work on my system for some reason.

    While I'm at it (since it just happened): Are the runway lights in FSX sometimes messed up? I just got cleared to land on RWY 4L to KJFK, but ended up landing on 4R because that runway had its lights on and the Approach autopilot lined me up for it (I was using the frequency for 4L, but it lined up on 4R). Weird eh?

    I don't believe there is a problem. Note that RWY 4R/22L has ALSF-1 approach lighting, while RWY 4L only has REILS. It looks like the LOC frequency for 22L is also 110.9, and it is possible that you got a backcourse, but in my testing I was never able to get the backcourse signal.

    BTW, the sensitivity controls in FSX do not affect any of the Saitek joysticks.
    I fly through the valley of death, but I fear no evil,for I am at 80,000 feet and climbing. Let's powerdive and scare that poor soul in that Ultralight there.
