Thread: Cannot save *.CFG files in FSX folder

Question Cannot save *.CFG files in FSX folder

Hello guys, im back after almost a year away.

I seem to be having a problem saving files in aircraft folders on FSX.

When I try to add a repaint to any of my airplane folders, a dialog box appears saying that it cannot create the CFG file in that folder and instead redirects me to the Documents folder.

    Please help!!

    Calvin

    My computer runs on Vista

    Hi,

Disable UAC (User Account Control) in Vista and report back if you still got problems saving FSX files. If you want you may enable UAC when your done.

    Erm,

The "solution" to the problem has made it worse... >

Whenever I try to load the repaint FSX just restarts itself, after a "fatal error" :S

    Wth is going on?!

Is that repaint a default FSX repaint? If not: Is it a FSX repaint or a repaint made for FS9?

    Its a FSX Repaint.

    I am a member of a VA called Flock-Air (http://www.flock-air.com/)

I downloaded one of the repaints for the Bombardier CRJ700.

    I hope this helps.

Create a shortcut for Notepad or whatever you use to view the .cfg, right click the shortcut and make it run as administrator. This should fix it. Note: Only the shortcut will work. When opening a .cfg make you select: view all items.

Vista is very protective of programs that are installed into the Program Files folder. That will be the reason you are having trouble.

There are a number of ways to achieve what you want. The idea to run Notepad in "Administrator" mode by right clicking and choosing "Run as Administrator" is a good solution.

Another possible option would be to COPY the .cfg file to a location OUTSIDE Program Files (say, the desktop) ... edit it ... and then copy it BACK in to Program Files (to the appropriate SimObjects/Airplanes folder obviously). When copying it back, Windows may tell you that you need Administrator Permission to copy the file in to the folder, but just respond to its questions in the affirmative and all should be well.
