Thread: Saitek setups for multi-engine aircraft

  1. Default Saitek setups for multi-engine aircraft

I'm looking for some suggestions on setting up my Yoke and additional quadrant for multi-engine use (4 engines). I'm primarily flying the CS C-130 and am interested in how some of you veterans set up your controls for multi-engine aircraft. Thanks in advance for your replies!

I recently got a yoke + quad, but haven't figured out a way to do the C-130 yet. It would seem either 4 throttle controls, and one condition leaving one for flaps, or else 1 throttle and 4 condition. I haven't found any use for the buttons that are at the bottom of the lever throw, except for the throttles I have it set to F2 for reverse. I use fsuipc to program it, not the saitek sst software.

So if you come up with anything post back.

You use fsuipc to program? Hadn't heard of that before. What's the benefit and how do you use it?

I have 2 Saitek Throttle quadrants and put them side by side. I program in FSX for engine throttle 1-4 and then the last one is the flaps.

Being a novice I am sure someone is doing something better

The payware version of fsuipc has many options for programming commands into controller axis and buttons -- more than what are available using the FSX control assignment menus. Things such as aircraft specific settings, so you can have different settings for each. It also has the ability to set multiple engines to a single axis, so for example you could program 2 engines on each of two throttle axis levers, though I'm not sure I see a specific advantage for this. If you install the freeware version, you can look at the pdf manual and see all the things the payware version can do.

Well, in real life I have been on C130s and we lose a motor. You don't always have the longest runway to just ride it out and use brakes, so it's nice to be able to reverse the pair of motors that both work without reversing the pair where one motor is down or you might find yourself veering hard

And when we taxi in confined area's, we generally shut down the outboard motors. Personally, if I didn't have enough levers to do 4 throttle and 4 condition levers seperatly, I'd have 1 lever for #1/#4 throttles the second lever for #2/#3 throttles and not sure about condition levers as that really needs to have individual control for each motor....air start and feather or assign it to buttons or don't bother.

This is really good stuff guys, thanks! I've got the payware version of fsupic but never tried using it for programming. Guess I'll be reading up on this!

  8. Default throttles

    Hi,

for a four engined aircraft you can use two saitek quadrants set up as follows.

    Quadrant 1.
assign levers 1,2,3,4 for the throttle of each engine. Use the detent for reversers and the rocker switches for engine start.

    Quadrant 2.
assign levers 1,2,3,4 for pitch control of each engine. Use the rocker switches for feather engine.

This just leaves mixture so turn on auto mixture.

    Ted.

Ted, I may be missing something here but my Saitek Quadrant(s) only have 3 levers each.

Yep, not to be outdone, CH makes a "Quadrant" with 6 ( no not "4" ) levers. Perhaps two of these could be configured together.
