Default I'd like to avoid a reinstallation, so...

... any help would be appreciated. Yesterday everything was running fine. I then installed a new scenery addon (orlan08.zip from this library) but when I tried to start a flight from there FS9 crashed back to the desktop. I have removed the offending scenery, but I still have the same problem. I now find that I cannot start from any Orlando airport (Sandford, Executive, etc). what is left of my hair is rapidly being pulled out in clumps!

    Thanks
    Mike

I may be some time in responding as work calls.

    Default scenery

Did you remove it from FS9 first or did you just delete the folder the scenery was in?

Removed it from Addon Scenery and then removed the folders. I'm pointing the accusinf finger at this addon, of course, it may be pure coincidence. I have let FS rebuild the config file, but (as I guessed, because I can still fly from other airports such as Seattle) this has made no difference.

I suppose that I either avoid Florida all together or I do a clean reinstallation. However, I would like to figure out what is causing the problem.

    Thanks for the reply

    Default Messed up scenery

Did that scenery have a self installer? Did you have to over write any files when you installed it?

That's the frustrating thing, it was a straight-forward copy the folder containg the Scenery and Texture folders into the Addon Folder.

    Default File name

I went to download that file and couldn't find it. Is the file name correct?

    The correct name is orland08.zip

I installed it a few weeks ago with no issues whatsoever.

PS - There is also a small update for it which adds some building to the Cargo area. It is a single bgl file which was accidently ommitted from the base package.

One does need to follow the install instructions exactly as there is a Land class scenery entry as well as the base scenery entry and these must be activated in a particular order in the scenery library. It is also imperative that any other scenery for this airport be completly removed first.

    Default Gave it a try

I was able to install it as well and had no problems. It only had a slight impact on my frame rates, but nothing to write home about. Did you have other sceneries installed in that area?

I have quite a few Florida sceneries installed - not sure how many could be said to be in the immediate vicinity of Orlando though.

I suspect the orignal poster either missed something during the install or still has something left over from a previous enhancement of the airport.

Very hard to know since we don't seem to be able to duplicate his problem.

Oh dear the mystery seems to be growing. I am losing the ability to fly to other areas such as flying due West from Seattle and getting a CTD, so maybe the Florida business was coincidental. Methinks that Plan A, the clean reinstall beckons.
I did wonder about graphics card and drivers, but I have a Radeon 1950 Pro with 512 Mb, and the PSU is an 800Watt jobbie, so I'm not inclined towards hardware.
Any how, thanks, guys for the messages. I will go and get a stiff drink and then start uninstalling and reinstalling.
