Thread: Ground texture wrong for season

Default Ground texture wrong for season

My ground textures are coming up for fall even though the time and date are coming up for spring. The summer texture is also showing for fall. The winter texture comes up correct, as well as the fall texture. When I switch to the winter season and back to spring, the spring texture is now correct, but the summer texture is still messed up. I tried saving the corrected spring season as default and when I exited and restarted FS9 the fall ground texture came back while showing spring in the time and date. The rivers have the correct spring texture outlining them.

I made some changes according to the post "A new tweak for FS9?" by adding 'Tablefog=0' under [Display.deviceXXXXXXXXXXXX] and by adding TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400 and TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=10 under [DISPLAY] in my FS9.cfg file. I tried changing 'Tablefog=0' to 'Tablefog=1'. I have since put everything back to the way it was with no change to the ground texture. I even tried letting it rebuild FS9.cfg file, but it didn't help. I know I opened the scenery.cfg file by accident and closed it without any changes.

The only other thing different I have done was to fly Milton Shupe's Howard 500 with a new paint, "Howard Classic 500", By Tom Bingham, for the first time. It was when I took off and had a chance to look around that I discovered the ground texture wasn't right. The paint texture in zip file "h5721.zip" by Damian Radice for the Howard 500 crashes FS9 to the desktop. The original paint texture and the paint in zip file "h5blue.zip" also by Damian Radice worked just fine prior to the ground texture going a miss. I don't know if that is related or not.

Anybody got any ideas what happened!

    Default Has happenned

I actually made the changes before trying to resolve another problem that someone else on this forum indicated was an overheating problem on my video card that was resolved by putting a cpu fan on my video card. The 'Tablefog=1' is the only thing I did different from that previous attempt, besides the new paint on the Howard 500.

Does anyone know where the setting is for determining what ground textures are to be displayed?

    Hi Mike,

As far as I know the SEASONS.BGL in FS2004\Scenery\Base\Scenery controls which of the five seasons is displayed, based on time/date criteria. On my system this is 586kb dated 10 May 2003, which suggests that this is an original FS2004 file not updated by the FS9.1 Update.

As for the textures, which specific textures are displayed will be determined by Landclass files which decide whether the texture is forest, desert, urban buildings etc.

If you are getting the right type of texture but in the wrong season, this suggests that your SEASONS.BGL file may have been corrupted/updated etc.

Have you installed any "Environmental" accessories that may have modified these files ?

    Default Environmental add ons

I had a real grass texture for awhile, which looked good when taxing around, but looked weird when flying. I had made a back up and restored it. Things have been going fine since from that point. The ground texture is for the fall, but the trees are spring. The rivers show a spring texture around their banks. The season appears to be correct and it is using the wrong ground texture. Even though it is in the middle of the day, it appears as if I am flying at dusk or dawn. There are some pictures that I uploaded on a previous post showing off a couple OV-1's and the textures are correct there.

I included a before and after picture so you can get an idea what is happening.

    Hi Mike,

If you can give a location and date I'll see what my system shows.

    Default Happy now

    Alastair,

Thank you for your reply, it made me remember that I backed up my entire world texture folder and I just copied and pasted everything over and now it is back to normal, well for now anyways. What ever caused it in the first place could do it again. For now, I am back to the ugly spotted default ground textures. That is unless you like to fly upside down and in that case they would be the ugly spotted default sky textures. I like to do that some times. I guess I am a contrary east Kentucky hillbilly. We do things our way!

    Hi Mike,

If you want better ground textures I can recommend Ground Environment and/or GE Pro. See the Flight One site for details......

    Talking Thanks for the info

Yea, I'd like that, but it will have to wait till I have income, a credit card, and/or a bank account! Flight1 will be the first thing I check out after some new ram and a new video card.
