    Default Flight Sirector

I create flights in VFR and when I do I will attempt to click elevation for certain height and then click ap as other than fussing with changing elevation I just want to control with stick where I go. When I do this both the FD and AP lites and I have no direction control with stick. Why can I not click altitude and ap and do rest of flying manually?
    Thanks

Depends on the plane... On most, you can. Are you flying the default Cessna?

When you engage the autopilot without engaging any specific autopilot modes, most MSFS aircraft automatically select an attitude hold; which effectively keeps the nose where you left it. I'll show you how to turn it off.

If you want altitude controlled by the autopilot but not any other parameters such as bank, all you need to do is select heading hold or localizer hold and the turn whichever one you picked back off. What that does is turn off the bank portion of the attitude hold you engaged when you turned the master autopilot switch and turn on the specific selection; then turn all bank commands off. There is no attitude off button. I fly all the time on altitude only.
