Thread: Best FS Helicopter

  1. Default Best FS Helicopter

I know this is a loaded question but I would like some opinions, Which FS version gives the most realistic helicopter flight model? I am leaning toward FS2002. It seems to me there was an editor called AirEd or something similar with which you could tweak the helicopter air file (in notepad) and make it fly even more realistically. I've been away from the simulators for a while but I am getting the itch again. I started with FS98 and layed off with FS9. I lost interest after the MS started devoting more efforts toward eye candy than realistic flight models. The helicopter in FS 2004 and later were easier to fly but certainly not realistic. The later versions won't even autorotate properly with the collective reduced to minimum.

Sorry to not offer constructive help, but you're right. It annoys me that you can't autorotate in MSFS. If you reduce the collective to nothing, you're going in with no control regardless of your rotor RPM.

You can do it in FS2002 (but in the 2004 it didn't work for me), a little tricky but with some pracitce you can do it... the easiest way (for me at least) was to just cut the fuel flow, and ride on!! If I'm not mistaken there are directions for autorotation in the checklist section...

I don't know if these are what you're looking for but you might have a look at the Jordan Moore choppers over at Hovercontrol. He seems to do a good job of them.
