Thread: Screen Waves

    Default Screen Waves

    Hello Everyone,

I bout a 22" flat screen and have been pretty happy with it although there were some things to get use to.

The last two days of flights I noticed that I have a wave or little shimmy in the screen during my flight. I'm trying to live with but its bugging me, I have a feeling it may be heat since its been getting warmer here in Chicago (Believe it or not) but was wondering if this has happened to any of you.

    Hi Joe,

MMs are not the candy, but Mip Maps. In FS see if they are set to 4.
    Thanks,

    Jim

Guys, MIP is turned to 4.

Acutally it is on my desktop. I don't why this just started all the sudden.

Do you think it could be heat on the graphics card?

    Hi
When you say flat screen do you mean LCD or CRT?
On my 22 inch CRT I get a wave effect sometimes rolling from top to bottom
its mainly because I have a lot of power cables running behind the monitor close to the cable running to the video card. Also some big ass speakers near by most times on CRT's its interference or electrical noise it tends to get worse the older the monitor gets

If its an LCD what is the response time, you might just be seeing whats called ghosting

also check that you have Vsync switched on in your video cards properties,if this is set to off you will see whats called tearing in the displayed image
    Cheers

    Hmm. Tried degauss?

If it's flat it's most likely LCD in which case degaussing is not relevant. Screen refresh rate could be toyed with though.

    AU Wozza,

Its and LCD screen but I do have some cable running in the back.

Since the summer has begun here in ORD I have the air conditioning on can that be a problem as well? It has actually started since then.

    Bugdozer,

I will check vertical sync as well.

I really appreciate all your help.

Turn the A/C off to see if it stops. Heat can cause some video cards to do funny things when they get too hot. do you have enough fans in your PC enclosure to exhaust the hot air?

    Unhappy

It may also be power fluctuations.Have you trie plugging into a different outlet.
Air conditioners take a lot of juice. If you have central air that would have its own 230 vac circuit.
If its a room air conditioner, then it could certainly cause problems.
