    Default AISmooth and frame rates

I was just wondering if running AISmooth with FSX causes a decrease in the frame rate. I didn't know if it had any impact or not. FPS on my computer is already slow enough in major areas like NY, and I don't want to enable anything that's only going to make it worse. Thanks.

    Hi,

    No, it doesn't!
    Thanks,

AISmooth is a utility which moves some AI aircraft around.

Unless you happen to have many aircraft transported into your visual field - there should be no impact from AI Smooth.

The problem with AI is that you are simply adding tens of thousands of polygons to your visual field which have to be drawn and displayed.

The more FS has to draw and texture - the more power it takes to do so.

Thanks. Guess I'll go ahead and install it.

    "No it doesn't".

I'd have to disagree. Anything that runs in tandem with FS or inside of FS is going to use some CPU (and possibly GPU) cycles, thus costing a bit in performance.
It may be little enough of course that you don't normally notice it.

So long as it's not a big impact, it's fine.

A question for jwenting since you apparently work with Flight1: I am a former user of Ultimate Traffic for FS2004, and currently use UT 2007. I've noticed that in the aircraft assignment utility, aircraft types are missing. For example, Cessna Light Aircraft, a major part of the Aboriginal Airlines stable, as well as other, does not show up, so no aircraft can be assigned to those routes. In UT for FS2004, all aircraft types appeared in the assignment utility. Is anything being done about this? Don't know if you have an answer or not, just thought I'd ask.

I would say that AISmooth doesn't cause a decrease in frame rates. To be truthful, I have alwys run AISmooth since the first day I installed FSX, so I can't really say 100% for certain ... but on the rare few occasions where I did not start up AISmooth for one of my FSX sessions, I don't recall noticing an increase in FSX frame rates without it running.

you'd have to ask that in the Ultimate Traffic support forum, redneck.
I don't know what they're doing and when.

Well, don't use that mouse or keyboard then either, because they take up CPU cycles also! Wonder how many thousandths of a FPS you lose doing that?
    Thanks,

    Jim

That hasn't been resolved yet. It is one item on the list for Flight1 of several items which need to be fixed before they issue a fully FSX version of Ultimate Traffic.
